GDB 62: Oilers gone Wild

sick_oilersBrownlee's sick as a dog, I'm sick as a dog, and it seems like the Oil are sick as dogs -- they're certainly playing that way. Meanwhile, Wanye's internet access has vanished and it took me way too long to update the scores and standings on the site. Things havent't been kosher, my darling Nationeers.

Wouldn't it be something else if the Oilers actually went wild against Minnesota? Yes. How likely is it? I don't know. I'm still holding out hope that we're all stuck in some sort of cruel nightmare, and when we wake up there'll be a parade on Jasper Ave involving a certain cup with a certain name be hoisted by the players from a certain hockey team. You know, ours.

So here's what I want to see tonight: I want to see our boys actually bodycheck the opposition. I want to see decent play resulting in many shots on net, which will logically result in several goals more than the Wild. I want to see a WIN. Is that too much to ask? I don't think so. Willis has suggested that, at least on paper, the Oilers aren't a god-awful team. So let's actually win this one, yeah?

Pass the Neo-Citron.

@ Greg MC: I think he meant by not jeanshorts.

@ baggedmilk: Don't jinx it. The Oilers winning tonight is more likely... Let's just aim for one thing at a time here.

Oh and per the Oilers' website, Pouliot's on the roster tonight. Nilsson won't be playing.

Pouliot let's hope he doesn't play like a poulet. What we need out of him I don't think he has.

@ Smokin' Ray - NNC: I doubt it seeing that the Boogie man got a 5 game suspension.

Looks like Guerin was a healthy scratch tonight for the NYI. Must have been traded. Maybe to the Oil?

Which Oil team will show up tonight, the Jeckle's or the Hyde's? Remind me, which one is which again?

I loved how Ethan was complaining to the media about the "Negativity in this Market" (See Oiler ice-chips on tsn.ca). Just because this market cares enough to watch you play and notices how inconsistently crappy your team is doesn't mean it's a hard market to play in. Weak Ethan, weak!

@ Chaz: exactly why I have the NNC beside my name. Need New Captain. Screw the FMNF. NNC is the right train to be on. Woot Woot!

The negativity of the fans? Maybe it's only negative because the captain isn't doing his job. He isn't being a leader. He takes stupid penalties at stupid times and his coach covers for him saying that is the tradeoff when you play on the edge.

How about we need a captain like Messier? If the team won't play hard for you because they respect you how about they play hard for you because they are afraid of you? The team had no excuse for their loafing on the ice this past Thursday. And because Kevin Lowe did such a genius job in the draft the past few years we can't even go to the farm team.

Moreau says we are too demanding as fans and expecting too much? Maybe the problem with most Oilers today is that mediocrity is good enough. Moreau says it's good enough to be in the playoffs. That's right captain, set your goals really low then you will never be disappointed.

What a leader. He's a fine example for the rest of the team. They really are following his lead.

Time to go the route of Toronto. Fire sale and plan for five years down the road. Trade Moreau and get someone who will actually lead the team to a winning tradition.

Sounds like Moreau was going for the "All we got is each other" motivation speech. I guess we're about to see how well it worked. My prediction is if the Oilers crap the bed tonight, someone will be gone by Monday.

Smokin Ray - my opinion about our captain has changed since I read your comments. I'm onboard 100% If Moreau had a real job and his actions harmed the success of the organization, he would be out of a job. NNC!

@ longtimefan: It seems kinda odd that the person they chose as our leader constantly takes poor penalties. Depending on who we would get for Moreau I'd be on board also...I hope my kid doesn't hear/see this.

I understand playing with an edge but as a leader if he can't set an example as to when is the "right time" we need the change. If he gets through this period without hurting us it'll be a first in a long time

I questioned it when he was chosen in the first place. Why him? Why not Smyth at the time? Or Stoll? Even Staios would have been a better choice. But from what I remember, Jason Smith recommends the next guy and that is how the team does it. Weight recommended Smith. Smith picked Moreau. My bet is that Moreau would probaly choose Horcoff if he was leaving. We all want a change. And a different captain would be a good start.

No god damn way i want Hor-cough to be the captain. i would sooner have Grebs as captain or maybe Reddox. The only logical captain at this time is Souray or Hemsky...I know Hemmer doesn't act the motivator but he often leads with his actions.

Oh, and Souray for captain.

Anyone notice how he's standing right next to Moreau as the boys come out of the dressing room? Giving everyone a tap on the pads and a few words of encouragement. He's already acting more like a captain than Moreau ever has.

And how about whining about the media? Moreau gets pissy when the team sucks and certain people have the temerity to point that out. Souray puts up with a year of trash talk while he's injured, keeps his yap respectfully shut and then brings one hell of a game every time he laces them up. Captain material.

@ spiceweasel - FMNF - NNC: The lasting image for this season is Souray pushing Moreau out of the way so he could speedbag Weller.

I think it is a good call. The refs know that this game is ultra important for both teams and they don't want to be the reason for a team to lose.
