An interesting evening, with things pretty even until the third period, when Calgary took over. Flames fans will say the team found it's legs, Kings fans will say the Kings were tired from playing two in two nights. There's probably some truth in both claims.

Iginla et al had a much better evening relative to the first game and they faced pretty tough competition in Smyth, Kopitar Brown. The "second line" featuring Morrison and Hagman were all underwater, although most of the damage was done in their first couple of shifts.

So (just to get an understanding of this), the section in which you gave the player names, with green and red, for example Brodie: 6 in green 3 in red, that'd mean he got 6 scoring chances and gave up 3 right??

Why does it look like Backlund did great?

He spent the first 2 1/2 periods riding Glencross' coattails. Curtis was very good last night.

@Kent Wilson

It reminds me of that scene in the Matrix when Neo was released from the matrix and he is looking at the computer screens with the numbers scrolling down and Joe Pantoliano tells him that he doesn't even see numbers anymore "only blondes and brunettes". Soon you'll only see Bourques and Iggy's.

I didn't get to see much of the game but from what I did see Iginla looked strong, especially that one rush where he faked inside and cut out then drove the net and almost flicked it over Bernier's glove was nice. His scoring chances seem to bear out the strong play.

One thing though, I notice is that Backlund has not received much positive reviews for his play yet his SC+ at EV look good at 5-0. Not much ice time though, is it safe to assume he was sheltered pretty aggressively by Sutter?

While we didn't dominate in the first 2 periods, it is nice to see that we held our own against a good younger team. It could be, however, a tired LA team and it is early in the season so they are probably trying to work out some kinks as well. But, Calgary was shortbenched early and they were at least working hard. so, GO FLAMES!!
