The totals in this game are extremely deceiving. The Flames were underwater until the middle of the third period when the Panthers took a 3-0 lead. Calgary pressed the attack at that point and augmented their chance totals, but the truth is the Panthers were mostly the better team for a majority of the evening. They managed all of 5 ES chances on home ice through 2 periods, which is a pretty stiff indictment of a club with aspirations of making the playoffs.

Other items:

- Iginla's totals took off in the third, not coindicentally with Stajan on his line instead of Jokinen.

- To the surprise of no one, Brodie and Staios were underwater. Rookie + aging replacement level player = bad news.

I only half-watched, but I liked what I saw of Backlund/Glencross/Morrison as a line. I would like that line to be maintained. Actually, I liked all the lines at the end of the game better than the original ones.

Looked good early but the Florida goal seemed to throw them off. Staios is brutal. We are better off rotating 5 defense rather than having him play. I thought that Joker was working hard but still poor chemistry on the top line. Somethings gotta change or we are in for a long season.

Yet again I did not watch much of the game but these underlying numbers are telling me that Iggy has shown up to play (at least in two games) but his linemates are not up to snuff. Even the first period Iggy was 2-0 for the good, while 8-1 for the game seems dominant. I assume that Iggy played good comp based on how Sutter likes to match lines power vs. power.

How much longer can Brent Sutter refuse to see the evidence that Jokinen has no chemistry with Iggy and gets eaten alive against strong competition. And how can they choose Staios over Saarich?! Staios is brutal and should be allowed to dispense his leadership qualities on the kiddies on the farm.

Listening to comments on overtime on Fan960 and the fact the Flames were shut out obviously Iggy was not dominant. Hopefully some of the bounces go his way since he seems to be driving the play.A lot of his chances (4-1) seemed to have been after the game was out of reach anyway. What can I say, I'm still learning how to look at these charts.

I really felt bad for Brodie last night. He made some rookie mistakes, and there was no one there to bail him out (save kipper) any other defenseman on the team - including sarich would have stopped stillman on that first goal.

I didn't watch the game but scoring chances+ save % would seem to indicate that we were out goaltended as well.

@John F

From what I can see the players who have been notably bad so far in terms of gaining and giving up scoring chances are White, not horrible but definately under par for someone of his offensive caliber. Hagman hasn't had hardly any offensive chances and his one empty net goal doesn't count. Bourque was injured for Florida's game but before that he wasn't too noticeable either.
