Head-to-head Ice time

A disappointing evening all around. I was surprsied to see the first line even on the night because they were mostly underwhelming in terms of controlling play. Aside from them, everyone else struggled - even the third line which has been so dependable up until tonight.

The Jokinen line, which has been getting some tough minutes from Sutter the last couple of games, got killed. Part of that is Jokinen, who just isn't cut out for that gig, but another part of it was a pretty lackluster effort from Bourque as well. He made questionable decisions and was soft on the puck. Throw in some bad plays from Giordano, Regehr and White at key times, plus some mediocre netminding, and you have your loss.

Perhaps most distressing is the fact the Flames fell apart for the second straight night when holding a lead. They weren't exactly facing the Capitals and Red Wings either. It's one thing to go into a defensive shell and yield some possession in order to box out the higher quality chances...but the Flames didn't do that tonight nor against Edmonton...they gave up both.

Not good.

Looks like the only forward worth a damn was Conroy with a +4 Diff in his 4:37(!) of EV ice.

At least the Flames SC numbers have improved from last year where they were getting their heads beat in at this point, and this is without CORSI machines Langkow and Moss in the lineup.

I was particularly dissapointed in the second & third line tonight. We've been spoiled up until this point this season with how they have performed but Bourque especially was invisible tonight. I only noticed Glencross when he was on the PK.

This just adds to the theory that the "top line" needs to stay even and the second & third line outperform the other teams middle six. Tonight that didn't happen and they lost.

Did you send these numbers to Brent who said that Jokinen was the teams best player and that the first line was his worst line?
