BUFFALO - NOVEMBER 13: Rene Bourque #17 of the Calgary Flames warms up before the game against the Buffalo Sabres at HSBC Arena on November 13, 2009 in Buffalo, New York. (Photo by: Rick Stewart/Getty Images)

With the injury woes the Flames have endured over the last few days, it was good to see both Olli Jokinen and Rene Bourque skating with the game group this morning.  Both have missed some practice sessions, but I think we can be a little more confident that both will be good to go come October 7th.  Tonight, it's the Flames and Oilers at the Saddledome to finish off both of their preseason schedules (6 pm, Rogers Sportsnet Flames, The FAN 960).

Lots of guys were skating this morning, so there will be some gametime decisions as to who's in and out of the lineup.  Here were Flames lines and pairings:

Alex Tanguay-Olli Jokinen-Jarome Iginla
Niklas Hagman-Mikael Backlund-Rene Bourque
Curtis Glencross-Stefan Meyer-Tim Jackman
Raitis Ivanans-Craig Conroy-Brett Sutter

Robyn Regehr-Ian White
Jay Bouwmeester-Mark Giordano
T.J. Brodie-Adam Pardy
Cory Sarich-Steve Staios

Jon Armstrong, Cam Cunning and John Rheault did not skate with the main group and neither did Matt Pelech on the blueline.  As for the Oilers, it's a bit of mix of players playing tonight, as they have some decisions to make.  No Taylor Hall or Magnus Paajarvi, however Jordan Eberle will see top line minutes.  Here are lines and pairings for Edmonton:

Dustin Penner-Andrew Cogliano-Jordan Eberle
Alexandre Giroux-Sam Gagner-Gilbert Brule
Linus Omark-Colin Fraser-Ryan Jones
Steve MacIntyre-Ryan O'Marra-Ben Ondrus

Ladislav Smid-Theo Peckham
Jason Strudwick-Tom Gilbert
Richard Petiot-Shawn Belle

No word on who starts in net for the Oilers, but it'll either be Jeff Deslauriers or Devan Dubnyk.  Friday's game was not the greateset outing for Edmonton, so there will be some motivation in that respect, but I expect the intensity level to be a little lower tonight, only because the two teams play eachother to open the regular season on Thursday.

Tencer had JDD & Dubnyk splitting with Deslauriers getting the start, but Gregor said there's some confusion because Dubnyk told him he was starting. Either way, I expect a split.

With Vancouver's release of Brendan Morrison today, here's some tweets regarding his future:

Via @BenKuzma...

Market for Morrison is heating up. Can confirm two teams in East and one in West are in hunt. #Flames for sure... Morrison's agent: "It would behoove us to be patient in the next 24 hours." Translation: There may be more than three teams chasing centre... Banged-up #Flames at front of line to sign Morrison.

Via @DarrenDreger...

Flames, for sure are assessing what options they have via trade or ufa's to offset surge of injuries up front. Morrison and others in mix.

I hope to god the Flames don't get into some bidding war for Morrison. He might make a good band aid for while half the forward group is hurt, but the last thing they need to do is overpay a stop gap measure.

Interesting that Brodie is in again tonight, but not Pelech (assuming the game day skate is any kind of indication).

If Morrison can be had for $500K, I'd sign him in a heart beat. That bottom 6 is terrible, with Glencross and Conroy basically having to carry 2 lines. I agree though, would hate to see an overpay for Morrison, especially if by overpay we have to offer a 2 year deal.

I would think his biggest concern with signing here would be getting demoted to the AHL as soon as a couple guys come back, so I'd like to see Sutter offer him a 2-way deal, $500K in the NHL, and $1.5M in the AHL! Gets him to agree to league minimum like Comrie took, but gives him some assurance he'll either get to stay on the team or get paid very well if he does get sent down.

There is Sportsnet One, which from what I understand, is to be included in the regular sports packages (which includes TSN2).

Because Sportsnet One is a national network & they can only play the games regionally, they have Sportsnet Flames, Sportsnet Oilers, etc... these are called "companion channels" and are only on air when there is a game. If you get Sportsnet One, you get the companion channel.

Currently, SHAW, StarChoice & Telus all have Sportsnet One (and the companion channel). Bell does not.

Here's a link to a partial list that may help you find out where to look...

I'm no expert, but I hope this helps.

@Greg

I disagree with your thoughts that lines 3 and 4 were terrible-did you watch the last 2 games? So far the performances of Mayer and Sutter have been very solid and I'd contend they offer you as much as Morrison does right now in line line 3/4 roles.Even Jackman has been ok. Based on preseason performance I'd prefer they stay the course and wait for injured players to return.
