EVERYONE IS WELCOME AT THE NATIONS
Wanye
November 12 2010 01:06AM
This is Keenan Cahill, a guy who has taken more heat on the internet than 99% of the folks combined.
A 15 year old kid, he has become famous for singing along to his favourite jams on youtube via a webvam in his room and a hilarious need to perform. With a sincere desire to sing, he has received tens of thousands of mean commentary from the wags on the internet who are quick to hate on anyone they perceive as different.
Comments on Keenan's performances include gems such as these:
masonfurry1: u look like a giant baby
ParkerRosetv: Whats this kids problem?
ninjapanda4: i'm actually very sure that i'm going to have nightmares he creeps me out.
skigod222: You know when you were little and you saw someone who was retarded and your mom told you not to stare?? Well, YouTube lets you stare all you want..... But I do feel sorry for this little girl, it would suck to have down syndrome.
THAT'S THE INTERNET FOR YOU
We see similar drama on the Nation Network with comment battles on a daily basis. People on the internet are free to say whatever they want and more often than not this results in a million man rumble.
Do you think that your squad should make a trade? Do you consider a certain player to be below par levels for quality? Expressing your thoughts can often bring criticism from fellow Citizens of the Nation and writers alike.
We personally feel for these folks much like we pity poor Keenan. He sticks his neck out on YouTube on a regular basis and suffers slings and arrows from strangers by the thousands. Clearly not the best looking kid on the planet, he doesn't even know the words to half of the songs he is singing his heart out to on the interwebs.
At an age when most of us would be majorly concerned about what people have to say about us, he has the courage to ignore the hatred of his peers in favor of doing what he loves.
AND IN THE END THE INTERNET WINS
One of the great things about the Nation Network and the internet in general is that we run a (relatively) censor free zone. Everyone is free to speak their mind and provided they keep it clean and abstain from personal attacks they have a right to be heard.
KEEP ON KEEPIN ON
And so party on FIST movement. Keep on posting first time commenters. Don't even trip for a minute about whatever criticism you take from your fellow Citzens of the Nations. So long as you aren't raining slanderous criticism on people and stepping beyond the bounds of taste your point of view is as welcome and relevant as anyone else.
We are fortunate to have you spend even a moment of your time at our family of websites. All too often sites like these devolve into a handful of commenters dominating the conversation and hating on anyone new or with different opinions.
We think that is a bunch of nonsense. If you have the dedication to comment on an article and bomb out a "first" or a "fist" we should thank you for taking the time to chime in your two bits. Don't worry about what anyone has to say - get those opinions out there and let the conversation begin.
Everyone is welcome.
For in the end even our friend Keenan has fans out there. Take the introduction of this new brand new song for example, launched live by Keenan at the personal request of the author.
(if your time is at a premium you can fast forward to the 1:20 mark to see the vindication begin)
Welcome to the future.
Pretty good for only being FISTeen years old :)
I'll be the FIST to say it, you should get an award from the Nation for that being the FIST of the week, maybe even the FIST of the month.
Sorry for the excessive FISTing, just trying to spread the word with my FIST.
;-')
Thanks Wayne. This article reminds me why Oilers Nation is one of the best sites on the internet.
I have never commented on here before in part because I am not willing to get lipped off by people I have never met, nor will I have the opportunity to defend myself in front of.
I love Oilers Nation and you are the king.
That little dude looks like he gets over 2 million views for some of his stuff. And if you check out his channel, you'll see him syncing with 50 Cent, recorded live in his bedroom. [EDIT: Or if you're not a retard like me you can just look at the video Wanye posted in the article. Mental note - no more posting at 1:30 in the morning]
*shakes head* (at self)
What has the world come to I ask you? Maybe it makes more sense if you just assume everybody on the internet is 15.
Check out the channel OR check out the video Wayne linked to.
*shakes head*
I was getting hammered in a thread on HF for daring to suggest that Tambellini might be among the worst GMs in the league right now, so I defused the situation by posting photos of my cat.
This seems relevant somehow.
Because of him my favorite song is teenage dream.
One of the best articles I've read about embracing the web.
Much love from Croatia!!!!!
Wanye! You are one sweet, kind, good man! Thanks for the perspective and the encouragement to keep things real online.
Personally, Fiddy throwin' down with this kid is pretty much the coolest thing I've seen for a while. Made MY day.
Thanks.
Wanye is also devilishly handsome, a lady-killer, and can hold his alcohol and [REDACTED] like nobody's business.
Look how ugly that ugly looking ugo is. I hope he has a crappy life.
SAME TO ALL OF YOU THAT DON'T AGREE WITH ME!
*disregards any and all morals from this article*
I'd have something substantial to contribute...... but I've smoked a liiiiiiittle too much [REDACTED] tonight...... Rock on NATION!
That's a lot of drivel. I see two reasons behind this. One as filler for a website and two to try and act as website mod but in a supposedly cool way. Just drivel to me.
Looks like you've got a little drivel on your pants there.
*ZZZZZIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG*
Your comment began and ended with drivel, and had filler in the middle. IRONY!!!@@
Oilernation is a special place. A forum for the misguided and disillusioned. A way for the tounge-tied to let it all out. Somewhere a crazy, live for hockey nutjob can throw his ideas out there, get heard and get feedback. I have been watching and listening in the shadows for a while and am, quite frankly, impressed at how everyone interacts here. It is a sanctuary for the damned(oiler fans) and for that I am forever grateful. I only hope it stays that way and that the regulars( as far as I know anyway) like Ender, I am a Scientist, Archeologuy, Jeanshorts, Baggedmilk, Soft Hands McSteely(my personal favourite-love that avatar!),OB1, David S keep bringing it like they do. Agree or disagree with any and all I come back because I know copper and blue is flowing through all of us and that my friends is all that really matters. For us as fans we can't ask for anything more than what Oilernation gives us. Thank you Wayne, and the rest of the faithful that makes this possible.****DISCLAIMER-if you are a regular, and I didn't mention you, I apologize. It's late, I'm sauced and haved rambled enough. Peace to the Nation. I'm out.
This kid is awesome! Good on him for doing it. I mean it's definitely a little wierd but hey, it's not hurting anybody. And 50 cent just went up in my books- that's pretty cool that he would support this kid like that.
Trust me Wayne, I don't give 2 sh*ts what other people are thinking. Everytime I call out the Goat that is Shawn Horcoff I get every Nation Member that have never been on skates telling me what a great player he is (and thats a lot).
The rabid attacks over the internet from the guys taking a break from Dungeons and Dragons really makes me toss and turn at night.
@budda1969
Welcome to the party, make sure to make random, conflicting predictions in every single thread. Then when one of them comes true (Hall will play great on the PP with Paajarvi!) you can link whatever douchebags lipping you off your best prediction. Teflon for internet flame wars.
@Cowbell_Feva
Nice work, 2 horrible generalizations in one comment. Next time include "in their moms basements" in paragraph two.
I mean, why don't we play any number of other two way centers we have that can outscore top lines in the NHL. Ah right, all the criticism at the start of last season - we could have simply moved a first round pick and gotten a center before the season. Heck, it only took two first rounders for Kessel, so a bona fide first line C will be handed to us on a platter. Oh we're at cap? Well, just trade our decent players that people may want for worse picks, Vis for Whitney? Nope, no Cap, sure, no one will take Horcoff but we can bury him in minors. There is the salary!
If you consider it, what is "Great" player? Top 200 in the NHL? Horcoff is definately a top 200 player. Top 100? Only 100 "great" hockey players in the world? Horcoff is a viable option and an above average hockey player. If you want to consider that good or great - fine. I can say without batting an eye that he is great for our team though. Not talking salary since you are not a #'s guy apparently. Better with him or without him?
http://www2.canada.com/calgaryherald/news/story.html?id=9850a3b6-14a3-4ada-ab2d-c60100083350 Flames Sutter arrested for assault. The player.
hahaha
Sure you get attacked a lot, but have you stopped to wonder why maybe?
When every post from you is a bash on Horcoff it starts getting old after awhile, we know you hate the man but do we really need 2 posts from you on every article ragging on him? Even when he plays a good game you have something negative to say, we all get it by now, really we do. Im not even going to waste my time in trying to explain to you how good he is and how he is the right fit for this team/captaincy but would it be a little to hard to ask for some other insightful comment that has nothing to do with your hate-on for Horcoff?
@budda1969
No worries dude, we are lipping you off in our secret members only ON room :P
"EVERYONE IS WELCOME AT THE NATIONS"
No. No, they're not.
Horcoff for MVP of the year ? Team falls completely apart with Horc out of the lineup . Are we paying this guy enough FOR WHAT HE MEANS TO OUR CLUB AND ROOKIES ? Fraser reaps high praise on Horc being our best player and inspirational leader even above Hemsky . Maybe we don't give Horcoff full credit for what he does and means to our club ? Is Horcoff more valuable than even the coaches ? Team seems totally lost without his presence on the ice !
Well, if Horc comes back today and we get bombed again by the Devils , we can always go back to bad mouthing Horc and his contact. MVP is not all about just goals and assists . No doubt Horcoffs other attributes makes him more valuable than most seem aware of most nites . It's not often we praise Horcoff so it's time to do so , if only temporarily . He's earned it so far this season !
Annnnd 50 Cent with the big F U to all the haters in the youtube comments section.
@Robin Brownlee
I think what he was trying to say, Robin, is that everyone is INITIALLY welcome at the Nations. We get that once they start replying to you directly or using smilies in their text, all bets are off.
;-)
SQUEEEEEEE SQUEEEEEE someone said my name!! SQUEE!!!!!
@ Wanye - We were told you went an an epic "sports" trip to texas... and it has now been at least a week with you back and no mention on it what so ever. Was it really that bad that the stories involving the apparent attendance of 3 of the major league sports in north america has not even drummed up enough jibbersish out of that bearded face to warrent a post about it?
**SQUEEEE someone said my name :D SQUEEEEEE
HORCOF GOOD SOMETIMES
*Runs to mirror to see if I belong. Check*
I try not to say anything here I wouldn't say to someone while sharing a pitcher of beer. The only difference is that it'd definitely come out less coherent. It helps when you can stare at a sentence for a bit to make sure it makes sense.
Oh, and there's no way I can criticize Keenan. That dude has more rhythm than I'll ever have.
@Robin Brownlee
Agreed. GET OUT, BROWNLEE. teehee
The award should look like a giants Oilersnation Fist!
OOH YEAH. That's the stuff. Your cold detachment from everything and everyone is so fierce.
You do recognize that commenting on here as often as you do makes you important to ME right?
RIGHT?
*grabs common sense by the shoulders and places massive smooch directly on his/her lips*
And seriously how cool is 50 Cent?
Does anyone have an update on Hemmers injury?
wait, WHAT?
He's, like, Gene Principe cool!
In unrelated news..

The brunette dancing at 1:46 gets my vote :)
They said it's the same line-up tonight minus Dubnyk for Khabi, so I assume Hemsky's okay-ish. Still no Horcoff. Brodeur back in net, pray he's rusty?
Ya, that was a nice moment, I got a little misty-eyed.
Wanye, please make the links posted by commentors open in another window rather than have to copy, open a tab, paste, laugh, return to ON.
They should open up the voting for the cheerteam like they have for the allstar game. Let the fans pick the hotties!
this would result in all boob and no move haha
The poster needs to do that through the use of a HTML code or whatever the HTML stuff is called. :D
In my books he got upgraded from "couldn't care less" to "he's a'ight".
Yeah, only good thing 'fitty' has done since The Massacre.
Noted in the log good Sir.
OK. THAT'S using the internet for good instead of evil!
We could sure use someone who can make a pass win a puck battle, win a faceoff.maybe someone like shaun horcoff
FIST!
*looks up* DAMN.
*warm comfort knowing that this passes as a comment at the Nations*
What?...Ummm yeah. About that.
*Punched self in face*
Comment edited.
My journey towards complete failure as a member of the human race is now complete.
How did that young guy convince Brian Sutherby to make an apperance on his youtube video....he must have some pull.
