Head to head Ice

Corsi

Face-offs

Flames with a decent night, particularly since they were leading the majority of the time, meaning the Bolts numbers are probably inflated a bit by chasing all night. A lot of the big boys showed up with Bourque, Iginla, Tanguay and Stajan all spending more time in the offensive zone and outchancing the bad guys. The only liability was Jokinen et al - they got their heads beat in. The three straight icings in the third period didn't help their numbers of course.

The only other issue remains the PP. Flames scored on the 5-on-3, but that was pretty much the only chance they generated with the extra man all night. Otherwise, they spent most of the time chasing the puck around the neutral zone. That area of their game remains a pretty obvious issue.

Looks like the Iggy v. Stamkos matchup went evenly and both gained an edge on opposing depth.

Didn't like either's game tonight but both have so much skill.

BTW Calgary was -130 tonight according to the Score which is a touch low IMO so the oddsmakers are preying on stupid people with money AND possibly Lecavalier is an even bigger negative difference-maker than I thought

Plus the home advantage is about 5% but IIRC -130 is greater than 55%

Wow. 16 scoring chances on 18 shots at even. 17 chances on 19 shots total.

I've got to admit, I don't look at percentages of volumes every game, but that seems high?

That's 90% of shots were legit scoring chances for Calgary vs 75% for Tampa.

That means, either:

1. Nothing, it's one game.

2. Kent, you're crazy generous.

3. Tampa allows a high percentage of 'quality' (used loosely) chances against. If Ellis and Smith are the reason for Tampa's downfalls, I didn't see too much evidence of it last night. Ellis wasn't cool hand Luke, but I suspect they could bring in a "better" goalie, and things wouldn't get much "better". I could argue, that if you switch the goalies...it's just as easily 4-2 CGY, as it is 4-1 CGY as it is 2-2 going into overtime.

4. Sometimes... numbers lie.

A question. Have you ever tabulated a percentage of scoring chances vs shots? Where does it land? North of 75%?

I just looked at the Minnesota game, and in that game scoring chances were 16-15 and shots 32-22. The thing about scoring chances is that missed shots from good areas count, so as a percentages of shots directed towards the goal, it a lot lower than as a percentage of shots that are actually on net. I'd guess that the scoring chance to shot directed to the net (missed shots + shots on goal) ratio is typically just above 30%. Last night it was probably closer to 40%.

What is it going to take to see Joker in the press box? There is no way with Moss on the ice that line takes that kind of beating? That line gets their heads kicked in and they weren't playing Stamkos/St.Louis all night long. Jokinen has taken stupid penalties too but hasn't landed as a healthy scratch.
