Just had a chance to talk with Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter as he gets set for his first pick of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. There has been speculation leading up to the draft here in Los Angeles that Sutter might make move to get a pick in the top 60 picks, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards.
When asked if he would move into the second round, Sutter said probably not. That may change, however, the feeling from Sutter was that there are a few guys that will go early in the second round, and after that, there will be a lot of players to choose from.
There was also speculation the Flames might move into the first round last night, and a few times it looked like they might be close, at least from our vantage point in the media risers. So we'll continue keeping our ear to the ground in LA for FlamesNation, but he doesn't seem too interested in moving up in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Why would he be interested in moving up? The players he picked were not likely going to be taken early.
TSN said that Toronto got Calgary's 2nd round pick, I thought that went to Chicago for Bourque? Or did they get another?
CHI traded it to TOR.
Ya i figured thats what it was. The story never mentioned Chicago. I guess thats what you get from the Toronto Sports Network. Kinda scarey if a guy who's known for making big trades during the draft only gets an unsigned overaged Swedish goalie in the 6th round. Looks to me the team is staying as is. But maybe this goalie is the "One player" Sutter's been talking about from being an elite team?
