According to TSN, the Flames have inked Calgarian and former Edmonton Oiler Ryan Stone to a one year, two-way deal. The 25 year old has been a journeyman NHLer, having appeared in just 35 games in parts of three seasons. Stone has yet to score an NHL goal and has middling results in the AHL.
On the positive side, Stone is big, aggresive and veteran help for the increasingly young Abbotsford Heat. Some may consider Stone to be in the running for the 4th line centerman role on the Flames, but the same was said of Jason Jaffray last year. My guess is Stone is AHLer fodder unless severe injuries hit.

Stone is capable, but not a great skater... lacks speed... have my doubts he'll be a regular.
So to sum up: Jaffray 2.0
Four years younger, less offense, more injury prone, and half the AHL salary?
Meh Depth with NHL experience can't hurt.
The Flames just signed a heck of a good hockey player. He was snakebit last year, but he can play - and he adds that lovely physical element too.
The Oilers ought to have brought him back.
Yeah I recently read your take on him which improved my mood about the signing.
Honestly though JW, Stone probably won't make the team. Backlund, Sutter, Langkow, Jokinen and Stajan are all in line down the middle and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Conroy get re-signed. He's a guy who was signed to carry some weight in Abbotsford.
I like the signing, if only for the reason that we saw last year there is a value in a guy that can step in from the AHL and not have to be baby-gloved the entire way.
Jamie Lundmark did have value at times last season...so maybe Stone can play a similar role if needed.
Or maybe not.
@Kent Wilson
Stone played W with the Oil. Prob not an NHL calibre C.
Well with this signing I can very well see Conroy not getting resigned.
Sweet. Maybe we can put him on the 4th line instead of one of the pylons.
It was just today that I realized where I recognized Ivanans from, watching games against the Kings, and a surge of disgust shot through my loins.
Yeah...he gave Moss a wicked cheap shot last year.
I went to school with his brother Colin Stone. lol. Wish him luck!!
