Face-offs

You know things are going your way when you get 6 chances at ES and end up winning 3-1 based on an own-goal, a tip and break-away snipe by a third pairing, stay-at-home defender. The hockey gods were apathetic towards Calgary for the first half of the year, but they've been kind recently, and tonight in spades.

Some of the effect tonight is playing-to-score, but it certainly isn't like the Flames shut things down when they went into the shell. The Blues had 25 shots at ES and another 27 at the net including blocked and missed shots. Some posts, some that missed by inches and couple of 10 bell saves by Kipper saved the "w".

Pleasant surprise of the night? Jokinen and Bourque ending up on the positive side of the chance ledger. They started more often in the defensive zone to boot.

I probably just don't know how to count chances. However, I am surprised to see Iggy with 0 chances at EV and 1 on the PP. Not saying he had a great night (he didn't) but he seemed to be out there for more opportunities then that. Especially in the first period.

Coming off a tough schedule and going into the break I am okay with the victory. Nobody had a lot of QUALITY chances at EV and the Flames pulled it off with special teams (go figure) and great goal tending. The first goal was a bounce, but it was generated off of a good scoring chance and Jokinen driving the net. The other goals were legitimate. I'll take it.
