Calgary salvaged an entirely pedestrian effort by coming on in the final 10 minutes of the game and stealing the win.

Once again, the Flames best unit was the Jokinen line. They managed to create six of the Flames 10 ES chances all night. Iginla's line was mostly invisible until the charge at the end and Tanguay's goal. Random fact: PL3 played less than three minutes this evening. Good thing he dressed!

Good to get the W, but the club is till a long way away from playing at an acceptable level. A late surge got them by a lesser club on the second night of a B2B, but against the likes of DET or SJS the Flames would have been run right out of the building.

I think our scoring chances took a big hit by Sutter putting out the 4th line on O zone starts a few times, especially on icing calls. Someone get on the wire and give Sutter the 411 on basic hockey knowledge about home ice and last shift.

Wow! I thought Bourque-Morrison-Hagman would have been above water tonight. I must have been blind during their ES shifts.

Flames controlled the play at even strength, except for that 1st minute flurry where Kipper had to be sharp, which he was.

3 chances against in opening minute puts BMO, Hagman, Bourque in the whole. Next 59 minutes Flames only give up 6 chances EV.

Flames did not generate tons of scoring chances, but I was thrilled to see them force pucks to the net and generate shots, particularly in the 1st. After 10 mins we had 11 shots on goal. Much better than hesitating all the time for pretty passes that can easily go the other way (see Tanguay in 2nd period) without even a SOG.

This was according to plan. Every single player in Game Day video repeated that Flames did not want to trade chances all game. Tonight they played smarter hockey, and were rewarded in the 3rd when they kept firing shots. Tanguay redeems himself, by banging in the rebound.

Oilers had 6 chances on their PP. Flames PK was not great, but Kipper did well. Still give way too much time and space to the point-men. Gilbert's one-timer was not from the point, it was from the faceoff circle, like a 5-on-3. Flames PKers should be putting more pressure or else do better job blocking point shots.

From the stands, you could sense that the Flames were gonna get rewarded, as long as they survived the penalties.
