The Predators did what the Predators do well: limited chances against and jumped on mistakes. Calgary grossly outshot Nashville, but only won the chances count by a thin margin. A couple of Flames forwards had good games by this metric (Stempniak and Bourque), but, again, the Flames need more from their first line. Two even strength chances in more than 17 minutes of ice just isn't good work from Jarome Iginla.
That said, the Flames win this game with better bounces or worse goaltending from Rinne. They had enough quality chances to take the victory, but the puck just didn't go in. They also limited the Preds to a handful of chances against (and shots), although pretty much every team in the league has done that so far.
Ken,
I'm still a novice at reading the Corsi results. Can you please provide a quick overview on how to read the chart? Thanks,
Sorry Kent, this stuff is mostly crap. I have had an open mind on this stuff for awhile now and while it describes the general ability/effectiveness of players, it is just that. Generalizations.
In the end, the flames did not win. There are many other times when they get out chanced and do not win. Or vice versa, they get out chanced and do win.
All of this stuff is what we know about players already anyway. There are just way to many variables to accurately describe the situation. It's like Jumbo Joe who always piles on the points but does not win. There is an "it" factor and some players have "it" and some do not. I'll keep reading but so far it hasn't told me much of anything I don't already know.
oh, and one other thing, can you litten up a little. The pessimism at times gets boring.
