A pretty low event game, which is to be somewhat expected when playing a Hitchcock team; especially when they go up early. The Flames had a lot of trouble getting pucks through traffic in the offensive zone...and keeping the puck there period. Calgary did manage to generate three break-aways this evening, however, but were unable to cash in.
The second period was the killer. Nobody scored, but the Blues outclassed the Flames completely which is bad news when you're chasing. Calgary finally started running up a few chanes in the third, but it wasn't enough.The PP continues to be a blight on the club as well.

I look to the coach for putting the same Iginla-Tanguay combo out that should be settin' when we have a PP. No finish at all - why not try something else?

as always, great work. I enjoy the scoring chances that I get to dissect another flames disheartining loss. I am curious as to your shorthanded chances. Was the backes goal not at a chance or the two on one at a later powerplay. Either way that is by far the demise of this current addition of our flames as they don't score and really don't look dangerous.

The Backes goal was indeed a SH chance for the BLues. If you look at the first period you will see two chances for the Flames on the PP and two chances for the Blues on the Flames PP (ie; shorthanded chance). St. Louis had 3 SH chances all night.

The only reason to keep them out there is the hope that they score a few and increase their trade value.
At this point, I don't care anymore as long as they continue to lose.
Its the fastest way to get where we need to go.
