Staios! Is! Available! Hudsons Contest

Anyone who follows me on twitter knows that I've been actively trying to "sell" Steven Staios to other fanbases and teams as the trade deadline approaches. The tag-line I've employed, stolen from so-many informercials and shopping channels, is contained in the title of this post.

Today it was suggested to me by a few followers that the meme deserved a photoshop or two. The first suggestion was Feaster head atop Slap-chop Vince's body with a slogan or two ("You're gonna love my Staios!").

With apologies to Steve, it struck me that this would make for a pretty good contest, so that's what I'm currently prosposing - send in your best Staios! Is! Available! photoshop work and Flamesnation will send you $100 worth of Hudsons gift certificates, redeemable at both Calgary locations.

Of course, the true reward for such an endeavour will be the finished product, so all entries will be featured in a single post celebrating everyone's handiwork. Even if you don't live in Calgary and may not be able to use the ultimate prize, please don't let that deter any efforts - the real goal is to have fun.

The contest will close a week from today, Thursday Feb. 24. Send all entries to kent.wilson@gmail.com

Happy selling!

Is there any truth to this Frolik for Pardy rumor? It makes a little sense to me. Anyone?

The story from The Fourth Period reads...

Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman, who acquired winger Michael Frolik from the Florida Panthers last week, is in the market for a depth defenseman, with Adam Pardy, who is currently sidelined with an upper body injury, believed to be a target.

Nothing about a Frolik for Pardy trade, just that Chicago is looking for a depth defenseman in Pardy

Right... sell while he's hot. But only if the return helps now and for the future.

Not to get off topic, but does anyone know if the alumni game is going to be televised this weekend?

What's wrong with his play? No value in shutting down the best in the NHL night in and night out?

Contract might be high, but if you don't think he's been valuable to this team, you're not watching.

As far as I know, CBC has the first period and CBC.ca has both the first and second period.

Jay, go to a game and watch him. Just seeing him on TV does not do justice. Maybe he is not producing at the same pace as he did in florida, but the panthers also never made the playoffs. I seen him during the fastest skater at the skills comp. It looked like he was not trying, even slacking a little. He ended up with a good time. Next was gio, looked like he was trying for a world record, had pretty much the same time as jaybo. To have a dman who can skate the puck up and into the zone helps the offence out a lot more than dump and chase.

JBo.. is a phenomenal skater. I think that's why a lot of people get on his case that he doesn't try. It looks like he doesn't but the truth is, is that he is THAT good of a skater.

And White has been traded to the Sharks. Looks like getting Setoguchi off them isn't going to be happening...

With Hagman on the fourth line now... What if we move him for another d-man to replace Staois, and pick-up Chris Neil? He's good in the dressing room, would replace Jackman's toughness (I think Jackman's earned a spot on the 3rd line) and can actually put the puck in the net the odd time.

I know it's not a "youth move". And his cap hit I believe is at, or around $2mill/year... Anaheim picking up Ruttu... Same reason...

I am also amazed Stephen Weiss makes less that Stajan. Incredible.

Not a bad thought actually, but how many years does Neil have left on his contract at $2 mil? Speaking of Stajan, not much of a fan but mostly bothered that you can tell that he can be so much better. I keep hoping Pittsburgh would be willing to send over a 3rd rounder for him since they need extra help at center right now. I think Stajan would maybe produce better within their system and Feaster is supposedly looking to stock up on picks if he can.

@Bob

I think Neil has 2 years, at the most. Or next year is the final year. Can't remember. He's 31 now. Not young, but not over-the-hill, by any means.

As for Stajan... if they move him... I'd like to get something in return. Until our organization proves it can draft, then develop players, I'd rather have a centre to replace Stajan, if he's moved.

At 3.5mill/year for 3 yrs... He's staying put. And I think he'll turn it around. I really do. Still, we need a #1 centre, and now have the cap space to find someone - hopefully someone big and fast. Not to mention young.

Hagman should be moved. A guy like Neil is a great fit for a team looking for a run. Neil may be an agitator on the ice, but I hear he's a character guy, and a decent person, with playoff experience...

...and he's got much more in him than his current 3 goals, methinks...
