With the trade deadline upcoming on Monday, this weekend could be a busy one in terms of general NHL movement. Already this morning a whole slew of waiver wire transactions have taken place:

- Marcos Sturm was claimed by WAS

- Nick Boynton was claimed by PHI

- Craig Rivet was claimed by CBJ

- Ty Conklin (?) and Curtis McElhinney were placed on waivers.

Feel free to discuss, speculate, etc.

Other notes:

- I will be appearing on Nations Radio with Lowetide this afternoon at about 12:30. You can listen at the TEAM 1260's website here.

- Myself and ON contrbiutor Jonathan Willis will be hosting a Nations-wide trade deadline day live chat on Monday. Writers from all of the various Nations sites will appear during the day. We plan to kick things off at 10am MST, although I could be convinced to start things earlier if the morning gets busy.

Jonathan and I will add instant updates and analysis to any trades that occur. Feel free to drop by to talk Flames or the NHL in general.

- I am also the Flames representative for Puck Daddy Radio this Monday. If Calgary makes a move, expect to hear denouncing it lauding it talking about it there.

@Kent Wilson

The thing with Shremp is that he has crazy levels of skill, but it just hasn't worked at the NHL level. Do you think anyone would take a chance on him? If he's a free agent at the end of the year maybe someone would take him?

Looks like Lanks has a stall in the flames dressing room again according to Vicki Hall via twitter. Has there been a recent update on his status? Is this why cap space is being made?

@funkyjaman

I'd still be surprised if he came back at all. Those injuries are very, very serious and I just hope that he can have a normal life again. That being said I would love to have him back on the team. Great two-way player and very effective. If he doesn't come back though, that will be Ian White's lasting legacy in Calgary.

Panthers just dealt McCabe to the Rangers for Tim Kennedy and a 3rd round pick

@Kent Wilson

Never been very big on McCabe myself. That being said I'm a little surprised they couldn't get more for him

Boynton would have been a cheap remedy for Mikkelson... with Pardy out.
