Flames did this time what they should have done last time and dominated the depleted Oilers. Being in their own barn and Edmonton on the second night of a B2B didn't hurt either.
Iginla's line crushed it, in part because Sutter worked to put them in position to succeed. Each guy played well and the total absence of quality opposition didn't hurt things. The only Flame skaters to end up under water in terms of SC at ES tonight were...Olli Jokinen and Matt Stajan. Sigh. $6.5M.

6-2 ANA, SJ is making a comeback! Ah well, nice run though from Christmas. Kent I'll ask you this though: What would you do for next year? Tweak it a little bit or blow it up
I don't think Jokinen looked bad by any stretch tonight. One ugly pass that Bouw should have covered him on or it was a even scoring chance night for him.
Schevv...i think at this point the majority of us would rather see some manner of "blow up"...but I honestly think that the Hagman, Stajan, Kotalik, Sarich et al contracts are such boat anchors, that we're largely stuck waiting them out.
@icedawg
Personally me, I think they have to go one more year with this team and then blow it up. Lots of crappy contracts go off the board after 2011-2012. Anyone else think they will have a chance next year?
If they can unload 1-2 boat anchors. Lankow is back full season. They start the season better than they did this year and I think they can get in. But, I still lump them in the 6-8 claw your way in club. That being said, this team has developed a real never say die attitude. They aren't a fragile team anymore. Who knows.
Its sad. After the terrible start, this team has really won me over and it really is a disappointment that we won't see them in the playoffs.
Its been an interesting season at least.
I sure hope they can find a way to start next season with the same attitude/heart they ended this one with! I may still be a "cup half empty guy"...but I struggle to see how the boat-anchor contracts can be moved in any way that will benefit the club. Hopefully Feaster (or whoever it turns out to be) has some tricks up his sleeve....I hate that our summer begins this early. SO hard waiting for pre-season to start!
Would Stajan have ANY value in the trade market. A 7th rounder even? Personally me I would take a bagg of pucks for Stajan, so if they find any way to get rid of Stajan, do it
Cheering for this team next year, as the Lineup & especially the Management is currently constructed, is a fool's errand. Daz, in all his narcissistic stupor, has multiple contracts anchored to this team for next season, and essentially stuck with the current lineup, unless Murray E. parts with some 10 million to make Dutter's worst indulgences go away...that said with Oil at almost $109/WTI today this may be very feasible.
Otherwise, the Owners should take their medicine and can the whole Management Team. Ken King's box should be out in front of the Stampede Casino before the First Star is announced after the Vancouver game. Bring in some actual Hockey Minds and give them next season to do a Real "100-point" inspection of this underachieving franchise...unlike the "faux" Ken King assessment promised at the end of each losing season.
Let's hope the Flames tank next season and get a high draft pick (centreman) to compliment some astute Free Agent Signings for the 2012-2013 season along with our current young "Blue Chippers" like Giordano/Backlund/Brodie etc.
The status quo is unacceptable...as a Flames Fan I am tired of "pissing up a rope" - are the Owners??
GOo FLAMES GO not.... flames lick a horses bottom ever since the X Leafs came down the FLames have not made the playoffs like WTF gte rid of Stajan And Hagman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LETS GO FLYERS LETS GO! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo
FLAMES FOR THE CUP NEXT YEAR!
