Flames played a capable game, particularly with the Stars protecting the lead in the second half of the match. Whats more, Brent Sutter gave the top line (now with Cammalleri in the middle) favorable ice and they finally outchanced the bad guys. Unfortunately they only managed to finish once, while the bad guys got three past Kipper otherwise.

Calgary didn't deserve to lose this one, but they won a lot of games they didn't derserve earlier int he year, so it's hard to complain too loudly.

How does Babchuk play nearly 18mins? Holy hell we are bad if we can justify him on the ice for that long

Scoring chances and corsi show that Babchuk among the best of the Flames defensemen, not the worst in all but one of the past 5 games. Obviously he's not playing against the best of the other team, but clearly he is not hurting the team. Beating on him doesn't solve the problem that this team can not score. Bouwmeester plays 50% more ES time (17:31) than Babchuk (12:12) and there are 2 scoring chances generated, to the 8 generated when Babchuk is on !

This confirms the thought I had about Jay as I was watching - the guy has really deteriorated from a top line defenseman to one with a complete absence of any offensive utility.
