Sven Baertschi returned to the line-up last night and collected an assist. The Heat also fired 50 shots on net (!), but it still wasn't enough. They ended up losing to the Americans 5-2.
Abbotsford gets a chance at redemption tonight in the second game of their B2B series against Rochester. They have fired more than 80 shots on net in the last 2 games, but pucks just aren't going in all that much. In addition, the goaltending has been uncharacteristically leaky lately, which has made it hard to bust out of their 5+ week cold snap.
The Heat remain fifth in the conference for now, but a loss tonight would likely drop them to 8th or worse. They are also tied for the second worst goals for record in the conference (77), which is just 2.33 goals for per game - and that's considering their very hot start to the season in October.
The turn around has to start soon if the team is to stay in the playoff hunt. Here's hoping they can score more than 2 tonight.
Maybe the Last time we see a few of these guys in a Heat Jersey.
Saw that Minny has pulled Granlund out of the Aeros game this evening because they dont want to risk him being injured again before big boy camp starts. Is this something we will see from the Flames brass as well sometime this weekend?
@funkyjaman
I was just going to ask the same question. I don't think they will, but you never know. If so, Brodie and Baertschi are both guys who may get that treatment.
Ya I agree. I wonder what the chances of Horak and McCarty (sp) heading to Camp as well...that is if there is a camp of course. Or do they leave them with the Heat for the time being?
@funkyjaman
McCarthy was signed by the Heat, not the Flames so I doubt he attends. Horak might make an appearance though.
Ah thats right. Forgot about McCarthy signing with the Heat.
Pulling Granlund from the game? Is he that much of a delicate flower?
Here are the lines:
Kolanos-Walter-Sylvester Byron-Street-Ruegsegger Baertschi-Reinhart-Horak Eddy-Bancks-Nemisz
Odd combination. Looks like Ward is going for a spread out attack. Wonder if the Reinhart one gets the toughest match-ups.

Shots are 13-5 for the Heat, but they're already down 1-0.
Has Markus Granlund completed his military training? I asked Teemu, but he didn't know.
@Clay
Im not sure either actually.
I imagine he can complete it over a couple of off-seasons. I hope we can bring him to North America next year
My assumption is that Markus has to finish this season in the Finnish league before his military obligations were done. But if Teemu doesn't know..
That's what amused me about people saying the Flames should have taken Olli Maatta last draft because he was "NHL ready". Even if he had been, he went back to the OHL for some reason, and still needs to go back to Finland for a year. Why did he go back to London anyway? Wouldn't it make more sense to do the military thing sooner rather than later?
The Finnish military has created a new exception for athletes.
They can complete their obligation over 3 4 month terms, or 4 3 month terms.
Mikael Granlund completed his this way.
@Clay
That was incorrect
2 3 month terms or a 4 month and 2 month.
Just double checked
In other news, the Heat finally won, scored more than two goals and handily outshot their opponents...all in one game!
On the down side, Greg Nemisz still hasn't scored a point. In fact, he got zero shots on net and was -1 this evening to boot.
Lockout is over!!!
