I agree on all counts, except the part where you said we wanted Burke.

So to summarize, you're childish and also right that we're going to see why Feaster is preferable to Burke.

Oh well.

@Stockley

No I think Feaster & Wiesbord (actually more miffed to see him go) did a solid job and if anything kept on improving in my books, as they seemed to be handling the rebuild nicely. Bringing in Hudler, Russell, Monahan, Gaudreau, Poirier, Knight, etc.

Ugh - Burke has already started talking about how "successful teams are big". BAD BAD BAD...

TRUCULENT! He said it! And also "there you go, there's the word, I know you're waiting for it."

This is prime content and scary as a fan.

Ouch, as others have said, Feaster may have been bad, but if Burke is the new GM, things won't be so great in CGY.

Burke has been good at turning awful teams into decent ones, as he did in Vancouver and Toronto; however, he hasn't shown any ability to take the team to the next level and turn them from 'decent' into contender, despite what he tells you about the team being elite.

The Burke-era Canucks desperately needed an upgrade in net, a winger for the Sedins, and a legit 1st line center (no offense to Morrison), but he just stood pat the whole time and made moves for 4th-line grinders and bottom pairing defencemen. Similar story in Toronto - got the team out of the gutter, but couldn't get them over the top.

He turned a good team into a contender in Anaheim, but that was a lot of luck. I think the key with Burke is firing him at the right time, i.e. after he's pulled the team out of the sewer, but before 'Team Burke' stagnates. And keep Nonis far, far away from him. He'll just continue the 'Team Burke' plan.

In summary: Burke doesn't think the team is gritty enough, and he's impatient with the rebuild.

After last year, I was actually feeling like the team was headed in the right direction, even if it was going to be a long process.

Not anymore. I'm super frustrated, and I think we're going to end up like the Leafs.

Other than drafting Jankowski (someone was going to take a shot on him, unfortunately it was the Flames who needed to make a safer selection) and the ROR mess Feaster did more than I expected. He inherited a team that would make a Greek tragedy look cheerful and turned it into something that has a lot of people in the fanbase excited going forward. There have been whispers of interference from Edwards and King and still I think Feaster leaves the organization in better shape than he inherited it. It sounds like Burke wants to go back to the days of clutch and grab hockey, toughness preferred over skill; the sort of boring hockey that got the Flames to game 7 in '04 but couldn't get them over the top against a team that had more SKILL.

Although on one hand those of us with an interest in the machinations of the Flames shall now be regularly informed. I don't see any change of significance being achieved UNTIL Ken King is unceremoniously sent packing.

The structure of the rot remains identical to the last many manifestations of the flames hierarchy albeit with a different figurehead.

IMHO.

But hey.

theres only one way to go…. and thats up.. no matter who is in charge.

Let the bombastic and arrogant truculent speak begin.

@The Voice In The Dark

No offence but at least the Burke-era Canucks were remotely capable of drafting talent.... Mike Gillies gets all the credit and all he did was resign Burke/Nonis drafted players (Sedins, Schneider, Edler, Hansen, Kesler, Bieksa, Burrows, Raymond, etc)....

No one has drafted more busts than Vancouver under Gillies (White, Schroeder, Jensen, Gaunce, Shinkaruk, Sauve, etc). Cody Hodgson a can't miss Top. 10 pick is the only player Gillies has drafted to play more than 40 games for the Canucks.... Then they traded him for another bust Kassian. Hahah.

That's my thought as well. Face punchers and grit players seem to be allowed to make mistakes. If a skill guy makes a mistake he either spends a game watching or gets demoted to the 4th line.

Just as a side note: Did none of you see this coming the moment Burke was brought on board?

Usually a new guy at the top takes a while to decide what he wants his mgt group to look like, and Feaster got a few full months of work under Burke to see how he would do.

In that regard this isn't a surprise. What makes it surprising is that Feaster and Burke really seemed to get along, and the team seemed to be heading in a single direction. Yeah, they are losing, but seriously, they suck, so they were never going to be a winning team this year. But they played theeir asses off and were ard working and entertaining even in defeat.

What is interesting to me is that it is both Feaster AND Weisbrod who are gone. That strikes me as a sign that Weisbrod's philosophies are different and irecconcialable.

Personally, this concerns me. I have really liked the direction that Feaster had Calgary headed in, and approved of how he has rebuilt the team (more or less - the Regher deal looks terrible in retrospect).

It's a brand new day.

Truculence!

I'm not sure that's exactly what he's saying. I think Burke is saying he wants his bottom six to be more like LA or Boston (big guys like Nolan or whatever). Backlund and Baertschi aren't bottom six guys.

This is the best day in Calgary since Lanny Mac and that beautiful moustache of his brought the cup home. This should have happened the day he drafted Janko off the board, and should have happened 10 times over after the ROR fiasco. How people are upset over this boggles my mind, the only thing Feaster had figured out was what he was having for supper and desserts on a nightly basis. Feaster inherited the team that stole the cup from us in '04, and I always felt it was the biggest slap in the face we brought him in to run things here. CHEER UP BUDS!!! Its a great day to be a Flames fan. Looks better than Lanny Mac in a muscle shirt!

Vomit.

This is Burke removing any alternate opinions in the F.O.

Seriously, he's going to fire two guys two weeks before Christmas for drafts that have produced a top ten system (and a 2013 draft that he himself called the best in the NHL) and trades where he had little to no leverage?

Sad day in Flamesland. We're now ruled by folk who overvalue the wrong things and undervalue the right things.
