Jarome Iginla Traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins

As has been speculated all night, Aaron Ward of TSN recently confirmed the Flames long time captain has been traded to the Bruins. The assumed return is Alex Khokhlachev, Matt Bartkowski and a first round pick. We will update with further confirmation and other news as it breaks.

For Kenneth AgostinoBen Hanowski and a first round pick.

Good luck in Pittsburgh Jarome. And thank you for everything. Go win that cup.

More to come...

An abomination of a trade. A 2nd rate Russian prospect and a less-than-Butler prospect and an imaginary 28th pick. The hockey equivalent of magic beans. I'm furious.

So Bartowski's a 24 year old who's played 9 NHL games.

The 1st rounder will hopefully (for Iggy) be 30th

The wild card is the Russian. He's only 19. Potential there

This raises another question: do the Flames rush Kohklachev to the NHL in order to appease the fan base? Does Feaster or King feel pressure to show off their shiny new prospect as a way of saying "see, we know what we are doing?"

The Oilers did with Smid after the Pronger trade and it took him four more years to get his game back.

Right there with you, this is a just a season that I'm hoping to forget fast, I'd rather we be in the race and blow our own first rather than this season of embarrassment.

Only because Klefbom "appears" to be a blue chip first-pairing defender. We'll have to wait on that to see.

Otherwise, no they really didn't.

I don't know man. Klefbom(1st pairing dman) Teubert and Zharkov. I think I'd rather have that then this garbage. Honestly, Koko might be a 2nd line centre, bartkowski will never play- he's probably comparable to Teubert. And even if they get the first rounder it's gonna be mid to late 20's. 30th if they win the cup

I hope not, but could definitely see it happening. Ugh. Come back Iggy!

Wait.. Bertuzzi's still a hockey player? Wouldn't be surprised if he was a big piece of a JBo trade to Detroit.

@Jay

That is true, but my point is that it was the scouting crew that saved that trade. Otherwise who knows who the Oilers get, and they may very well lose Teubert to the waiver wire next season if they can't figure out what to do with Peckham, Smid and Fistric.

Answer: trade, sign and sign.

Paul Gaustad netted a 1st rounder last trade deadline.

Iginla nets a prospect many experts see as falling, a depth D-man who is likely no better than a fill-in/career AHL guy and a 1st round pick we might never see.

Does anyone in Calgary's management not see the problem there? Seriously.

Flames apparently will make an announcement tonight as per Friedman. I bet most people hope it's to announce Feaster's firing.

Agreed. For the player's sake you'd like to see him handled responsibly.

However, it certainly would fit into a pattern of behaviour we've seen from this group in the past.

The Flames got a fair return for Iggy based on the parameters and realities I outlined the other day. I wish Iggy well. But Boston paid for the player he is now, knowing he might only be there a short time.

Replaced by Weisbrod, who is likely one of the significant architects of this move?

Don't remind me of that, Gaustad worth a first and Iggy is a "Conditional" ugh, Feaster your doing it all wrong.

If you were gonna get a crap return, don't do it, let him walk out a flame.

@Kent Wilson

I feel sorry for your position Kent. You are locked into this team somewhat. You have to endure the highs and lows and critique it. The ineptitude, embarrassments, day after day. You know you are in rough when your team is significantly worse than Toronto with a ridiculously worse future and draft pool. I honestly might have to consider walking away all together. Year after year just another disappointment. I can accept losing but they are directionless; clueless. How can they not see what everyone else in the world can see? I would rather have the Morrow return for a much less of a player. My only saving grace is Iggy is going to the best run team in the nhl. He can see how terrible the flames have been for him for 16 years and win a cup. I look forward to cheering for him there profusely.

No joke. I think it would hurt less if he walked away for nothing. Actually I'm not even hurt. I'm flat out ANGRY right now.

Gaustad being worth a 2012 1st round pick speaks more to the value of the pick in that draft year than the relative value of the player compared to Iginla.

Feaster still screwed this up.

There is no trade for Jarome Iginla that would have satisfied the Flames fan base. The conditional 1st is disturbing though, and I have to believe that the Bruins are looking to extend now. Maybe that's why the deal has yet to be made official. Well that's hoping anyway.
