Jarome Iginla Traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins

Kent Wilson

As has been speculated all night, Aaron Ward of TSN recently confirmed the Flames long time captain has been traded to the Bruins. The assumed return is Alex Khokhlachev, Matt Bartkowski and a first round pick. We will update with further confirmation and other news as it breaks.

For Kenneth AgostinoBen Hanowski and a first round pick.

Good luck in Pittsburgh Jarome. And thank you for everything. Go win that cup.

More to come...

Ken King should have been fired the day after he made Duhryl GM. Awesome Coach does not equal GM material.

My sincere hope is that fans let the players coming back in the trade off the hook for any resentment or anger they may feel over the move.

Heaven knows I wouldn't want to be a 20 year old kid as the principle piece of the Iginla trade.

Good luck, Iggy. Few players have served their team with such class. All the best in your cup run. (The Bruins look like they do need you, based on tonight. :) )

For those bemoaning the small returns Feaster got, consider he was in a tight spot. The pool of potential trade partners was essentially down to three. Realistically, would Chicago or LA have given us anything better? You'd have to think not, or we'd have taken it.

The market of three dictated the price here. Time to cut our losses and move on....

After Mike Green's frightening giveaway the other night, I wonder if Washington would give us their first rounder for Buowmeester?

At this point I would trade Jbo and Cammi, retain 1/2 of each salary for Couturier and a 1st.

Philadelphia is lower than Calgary right now.

I would target the Blues instead.

Feaster: Hey man, we need a first rounder. I mean, come on! PC: OK Feaster: All right, I see you want to play hardball. How about a conditional first rounder. I have a family!

This trade is as expected. A major loss. I am not at all happy. I cannot believe that they made the pick conditional. That's insane. I want faster fired. Some average Russian, a 7th defence man and possibly no pick! Is this for real. I assumed I would be underwhelmed, not made sick to my stomach.. There should be chants of fire faster in the saddle dome

What a brutal return! Bartkowski won't make the team. At best Koko will be a mediocre Val Bure leading us back to the Young Guns era.

I am pretty much done as a Flames fan. I wanted Iginla traded, but for this? I don't think that anything will be different about this trade when it gets officially announced. It's Bartkowski, Kovalchukovalol, and a conditional first for Iginla signing. What if Iginla gets offered fat money in PIT for 2013-2014 and beyond? The Flames get a double fist in the a$$ at that point.

Who are these 'prospects'? Given that I know a fairly decent amount, and have been reading up on the prospects of potential Iginla suitors, it appears Feaster got hosed. Big time. I have no idea who these guys are and nobody seems to be too high on them.

Feaster got more for trading Brad Richards from Tampa. This couldn't have been the only deal available, or even the best one. People must go into these dealings laughing at Feaster, knowing he's more interested in the buffet than the actual business.

This Khokhalechev may be hard to spell but hear he's a pretty solid centre prospect. Something we dont have right now. Bartowski I have no idea & I'm sure we are going to get our 1st rounder. We have been told over & over about how underwhelming the returm will be, I'm not ecstatic & I'm not surprised. It was time for change & remember, we just jettisoned 7.0 million from our cap. That is huge & consider a high end UFA as the remaining part of this return. Right now, it just stings seeing a player move on that was special to most Calgary fans (maybe except for Wolf). It will sink in & Flames can now finally move forward and start a new era. Win a Cup Iggy! Godspeed! We hope you will be back one day.

Hopefully Feaster chokes on his second Big Mac meal while sitting in the Wendy's drive thru on his way home.

"That is huge & consider a high end UFA as the remaining part of this return."

The most high end skater I see on that list is... Jarome Iginla. I jest but only slightly. Free agent skaters suck this year. Don't fancy overpaying for Mason Raymond.

I'm a fan of the team up the road, but that really doesn't matter right now. Iggy is a great player and a real gentleman. I'm sorry for the loss the fans of the Flames are feeling tonight and will for some time to come. We felt that way too when Smytty was traded. I wish Iggy all the best and I sincerely hope he wins the cup this year. I'm sure all the fans in Calgary want him to skate around hoisting the best prize in sports. Thanks for all you've done and everything you represent. Iggy is one class act and a hard one to follow.

@T4AFlames:

Peter Chiarelli is a very shrewd man. A lot of GMs have been thoroughly beaten by him.

He wouldn't take that deal, because he knows he can do better. Also, because he doesn't want Cammalleri's cap hit next year -- or even this year, because he can still load up with big, mean, tough, nasty talent for a smaller cap hit, at the deadline.

Seriously how does he have this job? Kent could do a better job at the helm. I can't wait to hear his stupid press release tomorrow. I'm sure he will say bartkowski is the second coming of bobby Orr and kak is going to be better than Gretzky.

We don't even need that first right?

I think if it is in fact a conditional pick I might be done. I've devoted a lot of time, energy, money and more than a few tears to this franchise and I think I'm at my breaking point.

Maybe I'll follow Iggy to Boston. Maybe I'll put out an ad to every team not Edmonton or Vancouver and see if anyone wants to recruit me. I hope I wake up tomorrow and find out Bobby Mac was wrong, that this was all just a very bad dream.

The Flames couldn't have done better,

Stan Bowman: Iginla for a 1st round pick, Saad and Frolik? Nope. Ray Shero: Iginal for a 1st round pick, Kennedy/Depres/Bennett/Maata? Nope. Dean Lombardi: Iginla for a 1st round pick, Johnathan Bernier? Maybe?? Peter Chiarelli: Iginla for a 1st round pick, Spooner, and Knight? Nope, how about Matt Bartkowski, prospect Alexander Khokhlachev and 1st round pick? Feaster: Okay, I guess that will do.

Why? When Reg agreed to trade his NTC, we were dreaming about Myers, Kassian, etc. Not going to happen.

Iginla is better than Penner.

The return cannot be compared straight across because markets change and the buyers aren't the same.

The Flames still appear to have gotten the short end here, but consider this from Chiarelli's side: how much do you want to give up for six weeks of a player with absolutely no guarantee that he wins you a Stanley Cup?

Now, if someone said the Oilers got more for Pronger, absolutely. No arguments.
