I'm going to throw out an opinion that's going to be unpopular on a website, but would be quite popular in a hockey dressing room.

Every single time you make fun of terms such as "compete level, grit, leadership, intangibles" in your weird effort to figuratively jerk off your fellow bloggers, you come off as an idiot to anyone who's ever seriously played the sport.

Outworking a guy? What a ridiculous notion, in a game of hard work, speed and physicality. Surely having more shot attempts is the only thing to be worried about these days (regardless of shot quality), our proof is the fact that this one time like 3 bloggers got hired by NHL teams......

What have they done for those respective teams? Oh I'm sure a ton, the fact that we never hear about them means nothing...

Everyone knows advanced stats are relevant, but there seems to be only a small group that agrees that they are also highly over-rated. You'll get crushed on twitter if you voice that opinion, but have you ever noticed how those same people that defend it so passionately never AREN'T on twitter? I have yet to see an intelligent hockey mind that has the time to argue with 40 nerds at once, normally they just laugh, let the geeks have their moment and carry on actually doing things with their day.

They then jump on dimwits like Steve Simmons and Krys Barch who oppose their cause but have no actual argument back. Which reinforces this notion that anyone who doesn't swear by numbers alone, is a caveman.

So I'd like for any who disagrees with that opinion, to take a nice stroll into your hometown arena. Then start yelling about how stupid someone is to consider "team toughness" or "work ethic" as something of import in hockey.

I'm sure the real hockey people around will tell you, failing that.... Perhaps they will strap on the blades and show you.

Keep winning on the internet though, if it makes you feel better . And by all means keep making fun of things you don't understand, it just makes me laugh. ;)

If the stats are collected by the eye test. Are the stats not then flawed because they are then open to interpretation.

@Steven

Analytics are about painting a clearer picture of the game, specifically the Professional game, not about destroying the intangibles. The fact of the matter is that the game itself is changing, it's moving away from unnecessary fights, and one dimensional tough guys.

I know change is scary but it's happening.

I am not to worried with this "Analytic" stuff. When I hear a coach start tell sports reporters the "corsi" numbers on the first line are not good so they have to change the whole line. Then I will be very worried that the nerds have won. Until then enjoy the game, people.
