Ekblad the consensus pick at fist overall.

Interesting that this year the question isn't "who will go 1st?", rather the question is "which team will take him?"

It seems the one thing you can always count on at the draft, is not being able to count on anything.

I am going tt find it really interesting where Ekblad does fall. Jones was the guy everyone thought would go 1st and he fell to 4th. I think everyone is being a little presumptive feeling it's Ekblad (though it might be)

If we traded down for either player and received quality back, I'd have no issue with it. I like the upside of both guys. But yes, you can't take them at 4. Virtanen is really young too and probably has the best physical tools in the draft. He's almost a full year younger than Reinhart or Draisitl.

If Buffalo had #1 I don't think it would be. But Florida is so stacked with young centers that I think they'd have to take Ekblad unless they think one of the top 4 should be a winger.

Based on my belief that FLA will not be holding the 1st overall pick (though I'm not sure who will be holding it)

1. Sam Reinhart 2. Sam Bennett 3. Aaron Ekblad 4. Leon Draisaitl 5. Nikolaj Ehlers 6. Michael Dal Colle 7. Kevin Fiala 8. Nick Ritchie 9. William Nylander 10. Haydn Fleury

I could see that happening. I'd sub out Fiala for Virtanen though, otherwise it's pretty realistic if FLA isn't drafting at 1. If not, Draisitl has to go to the Oilers and Ekblad to the Panthers. Which would leave us Bennett.

Florida likes Nylander probably last till around #6 so could trade with Vancouver,Calgary or even Edmonton.

NYI did not have to draft this year they could have deferred their 1st rd pick for next year they didn't , since they have it and want to trade it they are looking for a player that can help them today, no way they want to be last next year and have no pick in the 1st rd.

Why don't you get 10 writers, give them 3 teams and do a real mock draft? Hell, allow trades and factor in cap floor/ceiling. Do a mock FA too - let's see if you clowns...err distinguished, astute gentlemen can walk the walk while you're fighting over each other.

Next year we can all see who the biggest idiot is with a +1 scenario?

And put something at stake too

Vancouver trades for #1 they take Reinhart

Buffallo takes Bennett

Edmonton takes Ekblad

Calgary takes Virtanen

NYI trade pick to Edmonton for Yakupov , Edmonton takes Draisaitl.

It just seems like Florida is blustering their top pick too much. It kind of reminds me of when the Oilers kept threatening to take Murray 1st overall unless someone traded with them for the pick. No one did, they took Yak.

I also agree that since the Islanders have to give away their pick next year, no way they want that pick to be in the top selection. They need help now, and could likely be convinced to trade their fifth overall.

What it would take, who knows, but if I were Mac T, I'd throw out a last minute low ball offer.

I suspect that people are right and Edmonton selects Leon 3rd overall because they just can't overlook his size. I won't be overly upset because he's a tremendous player who very well could be the answer for Edmontons' 2C. HOWEVER, I still think that Bennett will prove himself the better and more valuable player in the end. Letting him fall to Calgary will come back to haunt the Oilers for years to come.

I wish he would. He doesn't get past Buffalo IMO. Maybe not even Florida despite their center depth. I could see Edmonton passing on him because of their awful player evaluation. They'll swing the pendulum and draft Draisitl. We're "stuck" with Bennett. I haven't seen him play live like Reinhart and Draisitl, but if what I hear is right I'm fine with it.

But yes, Reinhart has been my dream since he entered the WHL. I don't think I've ever seen someone as good as he was as a 16 year old in the WHL. Not even Sakic or Fleury in their hayday.

Florida is going to be quite a wild card. They passed up on Drouin and Jones for Barkov last year and Talon's interview with Duthie on TSN was interesting. He said florida has alot of young prospects at D already and ekblad could "compliment" that group. He then said they hurting in scoring and want a winger to go with their crop of centers. Take that with a grain of salt but i would think talon is leaning towards Bennet over ekblad or would rather trade down to the 5-10 range, get a nhler and another pick, then draft dal cole/virtanen or another goal scorer.

As for Calgary. any of the top 4 would be great. Dal Cole seems good but we already stacked on the LW and 1 of the 4 (sam's,leon, ekblad) has to be available so i rather we choose one of them since we need more C's and Ds. Not entirely sure why Pike likes Dal Cole over Leon.

I agree it's almost a dream-like scenario, which is why my caveat was Florida not trading the pick. Look at what Buffalo has currently in their system. Bennett's style of play seems to mesh perfectly with what's there. I just think Bennett/Reinhart could be largely interchangeable depending on what identity you're trying to foster - hockey IQ vs. leadership/work-ethic (both have skill, and will be great prospects). Personally (as a Flames fan) I'm fine with either of the three centres, but like you, a 1/2 punch of Monahan/Reinhart makes me salivate.

The mere fact that Florida is strongly offering up the first overall pick suggests that they are happy to trade down (away from Ekblad) to a scoring winger. That way they can get their man plus some nice additions thrown in on the trade. Then again, as Burke said, everyone lies and misleads going into draft day.

A guide to reading comprehension for Oiler fans:

Caveat: Reading comprehension means you understand what the squiggly lines on the computer screen signify.

Caveat #2: Caveat means to beware of a fact the other party may not otherwise understand.

Caveat #3 Party in this context does not mean getting high and/or drunk with other Edmontonians, it means other person.

Who would trade Byron for Yakupov? That's crazy talk. No one wants Yakupov. You'd be lucky to off-load him. Statistically he was the 4th worst player in the league last year, despite being sheltered and seeing very easy minutes. ;)

No, it sucks to be Calgary. It seems all the Calgary trolls are out today. Edmonton worst run organization, maybe, maybe not. However, these are Calgary trolls saying this. Calgary. We're talking about Calgary. Let's all gather at the end of this season and see where that title lies.

Florida now has their #1 goalie back in Luongo and their defence is young enough with some depth and they need some major offence from the forards so taking one of Bennett or Reinhart was where I was thinking they'd go...but...but...but with Campbell now wanting out they will....most likely pick up Ekblad at #1.

Buffalo was and likely is... going centre all the way in my mind... with one of Reinhart or Draisaitl.

But if I could perfectly predict the following I would say this is what may happen:

1. Reinhart - Florida/Vancouver 2. Draisaitl - Buffalo 3. Ekblad - Edmonton 4. Ritchie - Calgary (Burke takes over..lol) 5. N.Y.I either take Dal Colle or make trade.

If there is a trade here, I think Edmonton tries to make deal so as to pick up Bennett.

6. Bennett - Vancouver 7. Nylander - Carolina 8. Hayden Fleury - Toronto 9. Kapanen - Winnipeg 10. Perlini - Anaheim

This is what I am thinking and I will check out how close or far I come with this list after the first round tomorrow night.

But I know, know, know... that 99% of this wont occur so I am gonna have fun and see who out there differed and what they did.

So...Good luck to everyone else and their predictions!!!

No, it sucks to be Calgary. It seems all the Calgary trolls are out today. Edmonton worst run organization, maybe, maybe not. However, these are Calgary trolls saying this. Calgary. We're talking about Calgary. Let's all gather at the end of this season and see where that title lies.

When signing the 7th defenseman from the CBJ for 4.5 million per is seen as the solution to what ails the Oilers blueline it's very reasonable to assume this year will be like every other. There are 4 things you can count on in this world:

Death,Taxes, Gravity and the Oilers sucking

Can we not have Canuck fans included in nation HQ posts? Please Kent?

Here is a mock draft (almost done the second round) by a bunch of writers and fantasy scouts for DobberProspects.com

Here are the picks

Here is the discussion

We weren't allowed to trade down, so there were one or two silly picks where tthe scout said he would certainly have traded down.

OK, you got the "we are going to be better in the future..." part right, but where is the "we were better in the past" half? come on Edmonton fan, you're slipping!

Edmonton fans have been living on the "we are going to be so much better then you this year" for years now, as if that somehow makes them better now. Or maybe, it just makes them feel better to say, "we were better then Calgary back before cell phones and home computers were around, plus, with all these first overall, we are so going to be better then you next year"

Either way, we (Flames fans) are not commenting on the Oiler sight; you realize that, right? so, technically, there are no trolls, just the truth. just the sad truth for Edmonton Oilers, re-re-rebuild
