I am typing this post very, very slowly because if you are a Flames fan, you are probably reading it out loud and may need help with all the big words from an adult with all of their original teeth (such as your brother/uncle or your sister/cousin).

We've been higher than your team and we've been lower than your team, but all that it proves is that you can't win like a champion and you can't even fail with any gusto... you guys are just tweeners and that's the worst place to be.

I forwarded the article about Canucks impending mediocrity to a Vancouver friend. He replied - "I would find this funny if we had won at least one cup."

Our run in 2006 was a blast, not winning was really painful, but I can't even imagine the pain you canuckleheads must feel. You should have won at least one with this last team. You were so much better than the rest of the league in the regular season for a few years there.

and now... mediocrity. retooling. rebuilding.

The team you had was magical - peak sedins, kesler, incredible depth on D, goaltending, coaching...

and now... missing the playoffs. thinking about the draft. dumping talent.

welcome back to hell. nice to see you again.

These aren't the Flames of three years ago buddy. They have some decent youth coming through the system. Add in an expected high pick next draft, and they will have a very nice group of two way centres in a year or two.

And at least the Flames earned some respect for their hard work last year, unlike Edmonton. Remember the 8 to 1 drumming last year? And how could you forget the infamous jerey toss?

And Calgary has won a championship. They carved out some history from the Oilers in the 80's. But guess what? Championships from 20 - 30 years ago dont mean anything today. I dont put much stock into Stanley Cups won before the leauge was competetive as it is now.

Hell? Odd term considering the Canucks will still be better than any of the Alberta teams. Coilers are on a decade long rebuild and that's just to sniff the playoffs again. The Flamers have a relic at the helm and want to ice a goon squad - OLD TIME HOCKEY! Alberta - where they produce fine NHL golfers.

Do Oilers fans troll Canuck pages or flame pages and write immature things about their teams? I hope not, I certainly don't. Thats the difference between Edmonton fans and flames/canucks fans, we have class. Are Edmontonians better people than Calgarians or Vancouverites? It is a possibility.

The nice thing about being an Oilers fan is that we have loads of talent and are trending upwards. VAN and CGY are hurting teams with not much to look forward to in the future, so by all means if it makes you feel good to write negative comments, continue to do so. It only epitomizes what the rest of the country already thinks about Flames/Canucks fans and just makes you look pathetic.

My brother/uncle/sister/cousin's/former roomate was having trouble with this word... "tweener"... we just don't git it. So it's better to remain consistently bad? I was under the impression that a miserable failure is a failure regardless of how much gusto you think you have...

You know, when my short Calgarian attention span can focus on last year's standings for long enough to find where both the Oilers and Flames are situated, I still somehow find enough of my original teeth to work out a smile...

1) Cross-nation post. No one's trolling "Oilers' pages" get over it. And yes, for the record, we do get Oilers' fans trolling Flames/Canucks pages. Classier/better people? I wouldn't get carried away there bud.

2) From a purely results-based analysis, are the Oilers' trending upwards? In what way? I thought they were "ready to compete" last year? Two years ago? 2011? No? Sure, they have good, young players, who have done little-to-nothing in terms of creating a successful team.

You have to hand it to those flame fans. They sure took more of their share of seasons beatings in those videos provided. To have ship rubbed in their faces all those years, and still come back for more. That's sticktoitiveness at an unprecedented rate.

They have every right to be bitter and angry at the Oilers decades later. Those poor bastages. I'm sure it wasn't easy watching the Oilers hoist the Stanley Cup 5 times, compared to their one fluke. Cruel and unusual punishment in anyones books.

Are fans really battling about which of their hometown team is better in the middle of summer?

Reality check for everyone... All the Canadian teams didn't do as well as everyone had hoped or expected.

At this point I'd just like to see any Canadian team win a Stanley Cup. Its been since the Montreal Canadiens in '93.... 21 years and counting we've watched an American team raise the cup... Even though half of the time it were Canadian players that got them there.

Well Montreal did good last season, but ya all the other Canadian teams sucked the big one last season. I guess we can all debate which team sucked more, all the power to the team that tops that list, hopefully those fans well feel better about their team...

I'm happy that everyone cares enough about their team and old rivalries to take the time and yank each other's chains for a bit in the middle of summer-- it would be a boring board if people didn't and frankly, I get a few good chuckles reading the comments from all camps.

It's posts like this that make us Oiler fans look foolish. We aren't 'better' than anyone.

I live in Van and find Canuck fans fickle and delusional, can't stand them. Though this guy needs to get off the high horse. They can cheer and have their point of view.

There are clowsn in any city, Edmonton included. I've lived in all three cities and they have their own merits. Leave it on the ice.

Lastly, Go Oilers! (Flames/Nucks stink like poo!)

One of my favorite things about the Oilers is how the organization and their fans keep talking about how they're "rebuilding properly", as if there's nothing more to this than being absolute garbage every year.

It is also a source of much joy to me when "The Detroit Model" is mentioned, because the Oilers can be counted on to do the opposite thing, literally the very exact linear opposite thing, in almost every possible way.

Gutting the team, putting teenagers immediately into key roles, trading everyone over 30, getting new coaches with new systems every year or two, never having top prospects spend time in any development league, never starting their top prospects in depth roles, they literally do the exact opposite of everything that comprises the Detroit Model.

But things are totally different now! Everyone in the top-9 over the age of 26 has been traded, a teenage Leon Draisaitl is about to ge plugged straight into the top of the roster, the 5th coach in 6 years stands a very good chance of getting fired halfway through the season if things don't go well... Yep, it's almost like Scotty Bowman himself wrote this script.

I know, I know, Darnell Nurse was sent back to juniors. Clearly it's a new era. Maybe we should just restart the rebuild clock again, and Lowe can say "Hey, are you getting impatient already after only 1 year of rebuilding?"

You think that this is news or that fans have had anything to do with it? And I love how Flames fans for some reason feel like they are a lot better then the Oilers despite the fact they have missed the playoffs 6 years and counting.

I don't see the Flames making the playoffs for a few more seasons, and I see the Oilers making a push this season finally and passing on the torch to Calgary for being the leading team missing the playoffs.

The Flames cleared the Oilers by 10 points (the biggest gap in the western conference standings), and handed the Oilers the most humiliating loss of the season on HNiC (complete with team disintegration, coach meltdown, fans throwing jerseys on the ice, the whole nine yards).

Last year the Flames humiliated the Oilers so badly that they fired their manager mid-season, because after years of rebuilding the Oilers still couldn't match up to a team that was literally DAYS into their rebuild.

Gonna. Will. Should. Next year.

Come back to me when the Oilers ARE better than the Flames. Instead of getting boo'd out of their own building.

And I was in the building when I watched half of the Saddledome leave the game at the start of the 3rd period when the Oilers doused the Flames 8-2 when all you could hear was chanting of "Lets Go Oilers."

Whats your point? Both teams suck and both teams have humiliated each other in their own building and I'm sure theres more of that to come for both teams. The difference here is that the Oilers are further into their rebuild (which is embarrassing that its still going and I'll admit that) however its funny how you mock the management yet Feaster commented about how the Oilers were wandering in the desert when eventually the Calgary Flames did exactly what the Oilers did 2 years earlier. Rebuild. You guys are in year 2 of your rebuild and we're in year 4. I have a hard time believing the Flames will make the playoffs in year 4 of their playoffs.

Also you guys have thrown just as many youngsters in to the league as the Oilers. Baertschi, Reinhart, Monahan, and now Sam Bennett is an obvious starter.

Can we be friends?

Also says Plekanec and a first like McCarron along with Leaf's players Kessel Morgan Rielly and Nylander in the mix..Emonton said to be a third team with RarrylNurse and Jordan Eberle moving..

I regularly post on Oilers Nation, and so I have to play nice with Oilers fans all week.

But it leads to an unhealthy Kool-Aid accumulation, so I try to make up for it by ripping the Oilers as hard as possible once a week after the Round-Up posts.

I personally love the strong Western Canada rivalries that dominate these weekly round-ups, and of course we have the Leafs fans (myself included) putting in their obligatory jabs against the other teams; but where are the Sens/Jets/Habs fans in all of this?

@vetinari

A little of column A, and a little of column B.

@MatsSundin#13:

JetsNation doesn't seem to have much readership, despite having some of the best content on the Nations Network.

I can only assume Leafs fans don't post out of shame.

Sens fans don't deserve their own nation.

Turns out Habs fans didn't actually want their own nation, they only wanted some form of sovereignty-association. They're going to have another vote on it soon.

@Kent Wilson

Kent, have Nation headquarters done a cross-Canadian comparison of a Vollmanesque NHLE projection of where each stands on a projection one year out?

Don't want to throw any water on rebuild comparisons but we're dieing for some analytic based comparisons.

@jonny94

Baertschi - Drafted 3 years ago, 51 GP in NHL M. Reinhart - Drafted 4 years ago, 19 GP in NHL Bennett - Completely unfounded claim that he will certainly be playing more than 9 games next season.

Got any better examples of players the Flames have "thrown in" to the NHL? I'll give you Monahan, but many of our fans believe that was a mistake. I don't hear many Oil fans lamenting over Eberle, Hall, RNH, or Yakupov getting dispatched too soon.

The only thing similar between the rebuilds of these 2 teams is that yes, they have both obtained some first round draft picks and finished poorly in the standings in the process. You ask if we will make the playoffs in year 4 of our rebuild? Maybe, maybe not. But I bet you we won't be finishing bottom 4 in the NHL either (unlike... hmmm... there has to be an example...)
