With the state of the Calgary Flames season seemingly on a bubble it's shocking to say the least when you see several names who could be on the move scratched for this afternoon's game. Prior to puck drop Kris Russell, Matt Stajan, and David Jones all were announced as scratches.
Whoa ... #Flames D Kris Russell listed as a scratch. Ditto for RW David Jones, C Matt Stajan.— Wes Gilbertson (@WesGilbertson) February 15, 2016
With Russell being the most interesting of the three scratched, it's impossible to not question whether or not this is a premeditated decision to keep them healthy or close to; regardless of the Flames tweeting out that they were day-to-day with injuries.
Injury Update: Kris Russell (lower body, day-to-day), David Jones (lower body, day-to-day), and Matt Stajan (maintenance) won't play today.— Calgary Flames (@NHLFlames) February 15, 2016

Hey guys, it me, your community manager here. And above is Ari's hair. There's a good reason for this, promise.
Let's take a quick breather of debating voraciously in the comments, writing questionably sound trade proposals, and trying to find a way to dispose of Dennis Wideman to talk about something important: spearing cancer in the junk. I'm talking a Milan Lucic-level spear in the junk.

The second overall pick out of the 2013 NHL Draft was signed to a six-year, $5.9 million AAV contract extension yesterday afternoon. For Panthers fans, this is a big deal, but it does impact the pending Sean Monahan extension. How much will Aleksander Barkov's new contract affect Calgary's scoring centre?

Bad news for Micheal Ferland whose night was ended after an accidental knee to the head after being tripped up early in the second period. The incident came just under a minute into the period during a sequence in close to the Blue Jackets net.
Sequence that resulted in Ferland's potential injury. Definitely accidental contact there. pic.twitter.com/rVcmxo80aw— FlamesNation (@FlamesNation) January 22, 2016

The Coyotes came into tonight's game second in the Pacific. Eating a Guatemalan insanity pepper would make more sense than this division this season.
Still, they have similar parallels to last year's Calgary Flames team. Mostly in the sense of their overachieving currently (coupled with the sad state of the division). Still, not to undermine the legitimate talent they have, which created an enjoyable game with a disappointing outcome for Flames fans.
I can't believe the flames are going to lose with the coyotes playing one of the three tenors in net— Tool Chesterley (@bookofloob) January 8, 2016
