The Iginla Trade Circus

After the news of the Boston “trade” broke over twitter, I made the joke that it would have been far more appropriate for Calgary to play Iginla and trade him in the middle of the game, given how absurd the management is, but they did me one better. Hell, they did me several better.

Pyrrhic Victories

An interesting debate I've been watching over Twitter among Flames fans recently: "Is it okay to cheer for short term failure on your own team?"

There seem to be more and more fans who want the Flames to experience repeated losses and blowouts in order to get a change of management and finally make some seemingly necessary moves. On the other hand, there's a lot of fans who are more than happy to keep cheering on the team to wins, despite the fact that the Flames are clearly not doing well on the whole and probably aren't going to contend for anything in the short-term.

How I Spent My Lockout Vacation: Matt Stajan

The year is 2012. The month is...let's say December. The NHL lockout is now over and behind us and we never have to think about it again for another seven years. I don't necessarily believe this will happen. I certainly hope it doesn't. But having a second lockout in consecutive CBA negotiations and the possibility of another cancelled season give rise to worry for a specific worst-case scenario: that this process - this absurd ridiculous asinine CBA process - is doomed to repeat itself.

Sure, it's a bit premature to worry about a CBA in 7-10 years when the NHL and NHLPA haven't even figured out the CBA for the 7-10 years leading up to it, but it's a valid worry, and one that says a lot about the level of confidence that should be placed in the two organizations.

Note: for the purpose of this article, I'm assuming this is a lost season already. Because let's be honest: it probably is.

Two Minutes Hate: Tim Erixon

Dear Mr. Erixon,

Go to hell.

Why? That's not clear? I guess I can explain.

You were something special. You were a blue chip prospect: you played 20 minutes a night in the SEL playoffs, scored points left and right, could skate and stay mobile, prevented plays before they even developed, and I even gave you the 2nd Annual Kris Chucko Trophy.

And then you refused to sign.
