Tonight, the Flames head to a North American city where there are about 350 stray dogs per square mile. No, not Mexico City but good guess! They like to call this Mad-Maxian dystopia, "Detroit."
The hockey team that plays in Detroit are always, always good. Like, frustratingly so.So much so that Mike Babcock, featured on HBO's 24/7 said longingly and with a straight face, "We haven't won a cup since '08..." As in 2008, and not 1908. Yes, many hardships have befallen poor Red Wings fans and their great cup drought of five years.
The Wings (15-12-9) have moved to the Eastern conference for this season and are currently four points behind Tampa Bay for third spot in the Atlantic division. They currently own one of two wild-card positions but this is not exactly been an ideal season for the Wings so far who are surprisingly inept at home with a 5-9-6 record.

For the second consecutive Tuesday, the Flames will take on the Bruins (22-9-2) and this time, thanks to more casualties from the flu and Bob Hartley's crazed worldview, the roster looks as though it will be held together with duct tape.
The last time that the Flames visited Boston, it was uh, not pretty. Leland Irving started that game and was chased in what became an absolute thrashing. The game finished 9-0 and Chris Butler and Jay Bouwmeester were a combined -12. Yowza. No wonder Jarome was hesitant to head there at the deadline.
So far, the Flames have played very well on this road trip, taking three out of a possible four in a back to back stretch against Buffalo and New York. However, this week's competition will be exceedingly tough for the Flames with dates against Boston, Detroit, and Pittsburgh, so it could be a bumpy week folks.

I think I speak for all Flames fans when I say that we all knew the Chris Butler/Paul Byron connection was deadly. It was just a matter of time.
As a result, the Flames are entering tonight's game on a two-game winning streak with a pair of OT wins against Carolina and Buffalo while the Rangers are currently on their longest home losing streak at MSG in 20 years.
Inexplicably, the Rangers and Flames are one point apart in the standings. That is, well, crazytown. The Rangers showed signs of recovery after a miserable start but are 3-6-1 in their last ten and are a shocking 5-9-1 at home. Yikes.

Well, no regular season win feels quite as good than one against the Oilers. Except maybe the Canucks. No wait, in the wake of their "rebuild at all costs, the next six years mean nothing" arrogance, definitely the Oilers.
Even if the Flames blew Reto Berra's chance at a shutout with ten seconds left in the third, a win's a win. Beating the Oilers just feels so, satisfying.

Yikes, I would not have wanted to be in that Avalanche dressing room last night.
I am guessing things were not to pleasant after the Avs (19-7-0), the Flames opponent tonight, were embarrassed 8-2 by the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night in Edmonton. Consequently, the Avalanche will likely not be in a great mood tonight when they head to
Hoth Calgary to play a Flames team that is on a two-game winning streak.
For the first time this season, the Flames managed to allow fewer than two goals in two consecutive games. The Flames will need to continue this solid defensive play against an Avs team with a lot of weapons up front.
