As we find ourselves only two days away from Christmas, we at Flames Nation decided to make a few last minute requests to jolly St. Nick to see if there is a chance at some last minute gift ideas that he might be able to sneak under the Calgary Flames Christmas tree.

POSTGAME: WING NIGHT

On a night where most Flames fans were going to be happy just to see Iginla get one or two goals closer to 500, something else happened. Call it part two of a three part Christmas wish for Calgary, but whatever it was, someone was listening. It wasn't as a dominant night for the top line as the Wild game, but Curtis Glencross led the way with two tonight.
STOKING THE FIRE - DECEMBER 20TH

Needless to say it wasn’t a very productive or fortunate week for the Flames, and once again they find themselves a game under the .500 mark. After starting a gruelling December off with an impressive 4-2 record, Calgary then proceeded to lose the next four straight. Is this a surprise to the fans or even to the team for that matter? In a way it shouldn’t be; injuries have made the club’s depth at forward a lot shallower and it just might be that the expected grind is catching up with the players.
That or the club is merely reverting back to the one thing it does consistently; inconsistency.

For most of the season we have tried to dissect the play of the Flames and where it was going wrong and ultimately where was it headed. Many of the fans were emphatic about not seeing this team struggle for the first half like last season and then attempt to make another miracle run at the post season. It didn’t work last year, it wouldn’t work this year, and ultimately it was going to pre-emptively ruin what the Flames needed to do going into the draft to right this wayward ship.

There is no doubt that when these two teams face each other, the stats and standings go out the window and for sixty minutes, only one thought comes to mind; Embrace the Hate! It’s us against them, family member against family member, and the only thing we can probably agree on with the toothless folk up in Shelbyville is that we wouldn’t have it any other way.
