Sometimes life forces you to do things you wouldn't ordinarily do. Sometimes you lend your mortal enemy a hammer and nails only to see him build himself a weapon of mass destruction and come back and kick your ass. As he is smashing you with his newly built AM-RAM missile battery, you find yourself wondering why you gave him the tools that were ultimately used to give you a sound thrashing. You also wonder how he was able to forge steel and build an active warhead delivery system using only a hammer and nails but it is around this time you usually black out.

From all accounts that was a bit of a snoozer last night in the wonderful City of Saskatoon. As much as one can’t really find too much fault with the Oilers gassing a preseason tilt, the level of intensity required to win the game certainly wasn’t on display for all the wonderful Saskatoononianites to see. And that certainly sets the effort bar rather low, wouldn’t you say?

We have a buddy who has convinced himself for some reason that today - 09-09-09 - is a day of of magic and wonder because of the fact the date can be summarized with the same number thrice. We wonder if everyone has a buddy like this, who looks at the calendar several times a year and exclaims “DAMN SON! Do you realize that it’s (insert stupid date here)” Then he looks around in awe and wonder, as though gumdrops will rain from the sky simply because it’s September 9, 2009.

For many folks the last 30 days were an ordinary August like many others. Relaxed summer fun, while we wait for the new season to begin and for Dancing with the Stars to end. But to us August 2009 will stand as our quarter life crisis that caused us to quit our job before it killed our soul in order to focus on hockey blogging.
