The Flames have another lengthy break in the schedule, permitting them an opportunity to enjoy three glorious days in Canada's sump hole for tax dollars wonderful capital city. Lucky them. FN doesn't rest, though, and it's once again time for a look at a few matters of note around the league. In this installment, Kipper is under the microscope, the Sharks look very ordinary and the Yotes and Rags make a swap.

The Flames have reached the mid-point of their year, and as painful an exercise as it's likely to be, the time has come for a few words on the club's season to date and what the future may hold. Unsurprisingly, this edition of the roundtable will largely focus on what my esteemed colleagues have in mind to get the rebuild started.

The Red Wings hit Calgary for the last time this year, still rolling along even as their sick bay has been filled with a couple of notable names. Having multiple elite players available is a nice problem to have, isn't it?

The dog days of the season are here in full force, especially for those of us that cheer for Calgary. I would guess that for most fans the initial burst of interest brought on by the GM's removal has been replaced again by the familiar feeling of ennui that watching this team causes on most nights.

There's still news to be had, though, and on this week's review of matters near and far, the Flames fall on the Coast, the Habs drop another D man, and Jamie Langenbrunner's days in Jersey appear to coming to an end.

This evening’s game against the Islanders pits the Flames against a team that is has begun to win a few games as of late despite the obvious manoeuvring by their GM to strip the team right down to the salary floor over the last week.
