The Flames get a look at one of the conference finalists this evening as the Sharks make their first appearance of the season in Calgary. As with Detroit a few nights ago, it's a team that spent its summer seeming to gain ground on the conference by running in place.

With a full week in the can, it's time to have a look at a few matters of interest around the Flames and the NHL. This week, the Flames get a desperately needed win to by them a bit of breathing room, Joe Thornton extends his stay in NorCal, and the Coyotes might have a sucker owner after all.

The Auld Enemy make their first visit to the Moneypit (as per wi) this evening, fresh off a haphazard performance in St. Paul Thursday night that lead to their first loss of the season. The first meeting between these two clubs gave most folks that cheer for the Flames a bad case of agita, but from what I've seen of Edmonton since last week, it isn't because they're particularly good.

After the allegedly cataclysmic opener to the Flames' season. It seemed appropriate to actually watch a few other teams play before delving into matters around the league, if only to ascertain whether it was possible for other teams to lose a game. With that fact confirmed, we can move on. In this week's review, the Flames examine the wreckage, the Champs are off to a slow start, and the League of Nations welcomes a new member.
