I'm going to limit the new guy profiles to Max Reinhart this summer. Being the first pick of 2010 for the organization, he has the greatest chance of being an NHLer going forward. More interestingly, however, he's likely to be one of the most contentious third round choices under Sutter's watch (as illustrated by Robert's article below). Perhaps in the club's history, depending on how things play out.

For those disappointed with the Flames lack of movement during the first round, the second day of the draft would provide no succor. The Flames were similarly quiet on day two, making just one minor move in dealing their 6th round choice for 27 year old goaltender Henrik Karlsson.

Draft Day Two - Open Thread

After the disappointing non-evnt that was day one fo the draft for Calgary fans, there's some anticipation that Sutter will make at least one or two minor moves on day two, be it in the form of moving picks or dumping salary. If not, at least the Flames will actually be making picks.

Updates and reactions will be added to this thread as things happen.

UPDATE - Perhaps the good news for the Flames is that there was a lot of unexpected "reaches" in the first round, meaning a bunch of quality players got bumped down the order. John McFarland, Stanislav Galiev, Tyler Pitlick, Jon Merril, Alex Pterovic, Brad Ross, Kirrill Kabanov, Jordan Weal, Tyler Toffoli and Justin Falk were all considered decent bets to be top 30 picks themselves. With that much quality still around, hopefully Sutter can take advantage today.

- For those unaware, the Flames picks today are: 64, 73, 104, 108, 133, 163 and 193

Draft Day Open Thread

With Pat Steinberg on the scene in LA, expect more updates from the ground as well as on topical analysis from myself and Robert Cleave if (when!) the Flames make a move this weekend.

For now, feel free to use this open thread to discuss rumors, speculate about trades or just simply wail and rend your clothes over the Flames unenviable position.

To get things rollings, I'll make some predictions:

1.) A Flames defender will be dealt this weekend. Ian White or Robyn Regehr for some sort of player + daft upgrade or Adam Pardy for a third rounder.

2.) Sutter will find a way to sneak inside the top 60.

3.) An "extra" forward will be dealt, making room for Chris Higgins to be re-signed.

Let 'er rip folks.

Even though the Flames don't (yet!) own first round selection, day one of the entry draft is typically the most interesting and action packed for those interested. As such, it makes to profile the teams and player who will mostly likely be involved.

1.) Edmonton Oilers - Taylor Hall

Even though David Staples is convinced there's a major push inside the Oilers organization to pick Seguin, I'm going to stick to the consensus for this preview and go with Hall to EDM as the first pick. That said, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Oilers and Bruins broker a deal that would see BOS pick Hall first overall instead.
