On Friday, the closest thing that we'll get to a Calgary Flames training camp kicks off. But it won't be in Calgary. Instead, it's far, far away in Abbotsford, British Columbia, as the Abbotsford Heat begin camp for the 2012-13 season.
But who, exactly, are these guys? Most of them are Flames draft picks, although a good many of them are not. In the interest of providing fans with a bit of knowledge about these players, here is a brief look at the men who comprise the Flames farm team.

With the National Hockey League officially locking out its players on Saturday, fans are now into the wacky, confusing period where players are looking for places to play.

Outside of bringing in Jiri Hudler and Roman Cervenka to the organization, arguably the most important addition to the Calgary Flames this summer was Dennis Wideman. In fact, he may be more crucial to the success of the club than any of the new forwards.
To be blunt, the Flames got very little offense from their blueline last season. Consequently, their power-play also got very few goals from their back end. Enter Wideman, who was tenth in points among NHL blueliners and, had he been on the Flames, he would've had more points than anyone not named Iginla, Jokinen, Tanguay or Glencross.
But how will Wideman fare on the Flames?

If there's one Flames player waiting eagerly for the CBA talks to culminate and get back onto the ice, it's Mikael Backlund. There may be nobody else on the roster – not Roman Cervenka, not Sven Baertschi, not anybody else – with as much to prove as Backlund.
