FlamesNation's roving reporter Ryan Pike has been down at development camp all week, checking out the next wave of future Flames. He had the chance to chat with 2012 first round pick Mark Jankowski about the camp, the draft and his future. 

Ryan Pike: Considering where you were ranked by a lot of scouting services, were you flattered that the Flames took you as high in the first round (21st overall) as you went and went after you so hard?

(FN's Ryan Pike managed to talk to a number of the Flames prospects during prospect camp this week. This talk with second round defender Patrick Sieloff is the first of a series of interviews)

Observers at this year's development camp can't help but notice 2012 second round pick Patrick Sieloff. A graduate of the highly-touted U.S. National Development Team (and a gold medalist at the Under-18 World Championships), he's been throwing some big hits and making some plays as he prepares to join the OHL's Windsor Spitfires in the fall. FlamesNation's Ryan Pike chatted with him earlier this week.

Flames announce development camp roster

Next week, Calgary Flames prospects and invitees descend upon Winsport for the team's annual development camp. The camp allows Flames fans their first look at many of the team's best and brightest, including the 2012 draft class. All of the club's 2012 draft picks will be in attendance for the five-day camp, but there are also several notable camp invitees and a handful of prospects that won't be in attendance.

Inside Jarome Iginla's next contract

Lost in all the free agent hustle and bustle is that, as July 1 arrives, Flames captain Jarome Iginla is eligible to sign a contract extension with the Calgary Flames. A veteran of almost 1,200 NHL contests and one of a select few to score 500 goals and 1,000 points, Iginla's also the second-longest tenured captain in the NHL (behind Daniel Alfredsson).

All of these factors will play into his next contract.

Precisely whose contract figures we can compare Iginla to is tricky, as quite frankly, there's nobody with comparable numbers in the league except maybe Alfredsson.

A look inside the Cory Sarich extension

The Flames announced on Friday the re-signing of blueliner Cory Sarich to a 2-year deal with $2 million per year. The deal allows Sarich to avoid free agency, but also involved the veteran taking a bit of a financial haircut compared to his old, $3.6 million annual salary.

Speaking to the media on Friday morning, Sarich explained the logic behind re-signing before July 1.
