On Saturday night, the Flames did what they do: beat the Edmonton Oilers. The night after, the Canucks did what they do: beat the Calgary Flames. After opening the scoring in the first period, the Flames allowed five unanswered goals to have their modest four game point streak snapped, falling 5-1 at the hands of the defending Western Conference champions, dropping the team back two games below .500.

With how things have gone for the Calgary Flames so far this year, any kind of positive streak is something to be excited about. Heading into tonight, Calgary has points in four straight games, and had it not been for a collapse in the final five minutes on Thursday, they'd have won a season high four straight games. Tonight, their quest to make it five in a row with points is a difficult one, as they visit the Vancouver Canucks (7 pm, Sportsnet West and Sportsnet 960).

Well, it certainly didn't start the way the Flames wanted to start Saturday's game in Edmonton, but after falling down 2-0 early on, it was a Calgary dominated affair from there on out. While they didn't lead until late in the contest, Calgary was 100% deserving of a 5-3 win, their seventh consecutive over their provincial rivals. While they have a shootout loss breaking up a win streak, the Flames have points in four straight and have played good hockey over the majority of that span.

With Friday's news concerning Mark Giordano, it's very clear the Flames will have to make due without one of their top minute eaters for an extended period of time. Giordano was second on the team with an average of over 22 minutes of ice time per game, something that is not easily replaced. Tonight, Calgary plays their second game minus Gio when they take on Edmonton Oilers for the second time this year (8 pm, CBC and Sportsnet 960).

Aside from the final five minutes of the hockey game, the Calgary Flames played one of their more controlling games of the season on Thursday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Unfortunately for the Flames, the final five minutes was enough for them to scuttle all the prior positives as Calgary coughed up a pair of goals and ended up falling 4-3 in a shootout at the hands of the Blue Jackets.
