After an impressive 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night, the Calgary Flames play game two of a three game road trip tonight in Buffalo (5:30 pm, Sportsnet West and Sportsnet 960). As disturbing as the above picture may be, I felt the Flames flexed a little defensive muscle last night in holding the Red Wings off the scoreboard at even strength as they look for a similar effort tonight against the Sabres.

One of the main calling cards of the Calgary Flames during their improbable run last season was their ability to abide by the "don't get too high, don't get too low" mantra. After a 5-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday, the Flames responded with a decent outing in Detroit to kick off a three game road trip, taking a 4-1 win over the Red Wings. It wasn't anything special or overly dominating, which is exactly what the doctor ordered.

They call the city of Detroit "The D", and when the Red Wings play host to the Calgary Flames tonight, it seems like the implications are rather heavy for both sides (5:30 pm, Sportsnet West and Sportsnet 960). Detroit is hoping to snap an uncharacteristic five game losing skid while the Flames remain below the .500 mark following a rough 5-1 loss to Vancouver on Tuesday night.

Seeing the Calgary Flames start the month of November with a .500 record isn't overly surprising, knowing what expectations were heading into the season. Seeing the Vancouver Canucks also at .500 after the first month of the season is slightly more surprising, knowing how annoyingly elite they were last season. Tonight, for the first time this season, the two bitter rivals hook up at the Saddledome (7:30 pm, TSN and Sportsnet 960).

The Calgary Flames played their worst game of the early season against the St. Louis Blues, falling 5-2 in the second contest of the campaign. Now the Flames look to right that early season defeat when they host the Blues tonight in game five of a a six game home stand (7 pm, Sportsnet Flames and Sportsnet 960).
