As the draft approaches on Friday, I figured it'd be good to get the final two pending Flames UFA's out of the way. So far, we've covered Conroy, Higgins and Nystrom, with debate going both ways on each guy. I think the final two will have much less debate surrounding them, as we move to Jamal Mayers and Brian McGrattan.

It's come up in both our previous articles on pending Calgary Flames UFA players (done so far: Craig Conroy and Chris Higgins), so I figure he's probably the next logical guy to profile. For the first time in his career, Flames first rounder Eric Nystrom enters free agency, and his return to Calgary is not necessarily guaranteed.

Forward Chris Higgins is next up on our profiles of potential unrestricted free agents for the Calgary Flames. He played just 12 games with the Flames, after being acquired from the New York Rangers on February 1st along with Ales Kotalik. His stint with Calgary was cut even shorter, thanks to a foot injury that sidelined him the final 14 games of the regular season.

He's one of the most popular Calgary Flames of all time, and for good reason, both on and off the ice. For the second time, Craig Conroy will see a Flames contract expire; and for the second time, he'll enter unrestricted free agency with his future with the team uncertain. We'll start our profiles on Calgary UFA's with Conroy, who turns 39 in September.

So, as Kent does an unreal job of preparing us here at Flames Nation for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, I'll start getting us set for the other big summer date on the Calgary calendar, that being July 1st and the opening of free agency. Over the next 15 days or so, we'll profile Calgary's potential unrestricted free agents along with looking at potential targets and team needs that could be addressed through free agency.
