I know that Kent here at FlamesNation and a few others have wondered about the decision to not have Mikael Backlund in the Calgary Flames lineup the last three games, and to instead dress Craig Conroy. It's an interesting debate, because Backlund is a player who has shown he can be a useful player at this level. But the question is, if the coaching staff isn't going to use him, should he remain at this level?

You know, when I found out the NHL wasn't going to suspend Matt Cooke for his hit on Marc Savard, it bugged me but didn't surprise me. It just drove home how much I, and so many others, can't deal with guys who play the game like he does. It's too bad, because I've always felt Cooke brings something to a hockey team, but he's a dirtbag, plain and simple, which de-values any of the good he does. But the whole thing also made me realize how much I appreciated players like Calgary's Jamal Mayers.

It's funny, I never thought this would be that much of a topic, but it has been the last three Overtime shows on The FAN 960. Calgary has played four games since the Olympic break, and has had a pretty consistent lineup in those games. The only changes they've made have been subtle. Conroy in for Backlund. Staios in for Pardy, due to a trade. Other than that, things have been pretty static. So where does this leave Brian McGrattan?

It seems as if a few recent issues surrounding the hometown hockey heroes have been rolled up into one ugly, messy, filth-ball. So, I've tried to separate things. There's my previous post on the woes plaguing the team, and now another recent Calgary Flames issue: deadline deals.

I get a chance to sit back and chat with Calgary Flames fans after each and every game the Flames play. It's a really enjoyable thing to do — it's a passionate group of fans; they love their team, and they hate to see the team they love play poorly. Which was why Wednesday's 4-0 loss at the hands of the Minnesota Wild was so disappointing.
