The Calgary Flames have headed west to Banff for three days during their week off prior to Saturday's regular season opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Good news had Jarome Iginla and Brendan Morrison back on the ice taking part in full practice, with neither guy wearing yellow "no-contact" jerseys. The bad news had Mikael Backlund not on the ice after having surgery to repair a broken finger.

The Calgary Flames finished their 2011 preseason with a 4-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes Thursday at the Saddledome, a decent finish to their exhibition schedule. The Coyotes iced a fairly veteran laden lineup and were probably the best competition the Flames have faced thus far; Calgary controlled most of the game and did some damage on the powerplay to even their preseason record at 3-3.

A nine day break follows Calgary's final preseason game tonight, as they take on the Phoenix Coyotes, hoping to finish their exhibition schedule with a bang (7 pm, Sportsnet West and Sportsnet Radio FAN 960). It's a 'Yotes lineup with plenty of NHL experience, so this will be one of the better evaluating opportunities the team has had to this point. They also want to put forth a solid effort heading into an extended break prior to their regular season opener.

The Calgary Flames got back on the winning side of their preseason schedule, using a 13 save performance from Henrik Karlsson to get by the New York Islanders 2-0 at the Scotiabank Saddledome. It's the second to last exhibition contest for the Flames, who easily controlled an overmatched Islanders squad who had next to no desire to be in Calgary. It wasn't a spectacular Flames performance, but they certainly didn't let the opposition do anything at all.

The Calgary Flames play their second to last preseason game tonight when they welcome the New York Islanders to the Scotiabank Saddledome (7 pm, TSN and Sportsnet Radio FAN 960). Calgary got some positive injury news yesterday, and as they move towards a healthier lineup, it looks to be pretty close to an NHL lineup tonight.
