Dougie Hamilton's ice time has been a frequent point of interest for me all season long. For most of the year, Hamilton has been number five among Calgary defenders in ice time. In more recent times, the Flames have been without both Kris Russell and Dennis Wideman yet Hamilton's ice time has still been relatively limited.
Personally, I think Hamilton is the third best defenceman on the team and, with only the stretch drive remaining, I think Calgary should be using him as such.

Has there been a more polarizing Calgary Flames figure over the last couple of seasons than Kris Russell? The pending free agent defenceman has ardent supporters who rave about his fearlessness and character. He also has realistic detractors who point out his defensive liabilities and dependance on shot blocking in response. I'm not sure where the Flames land on this conversation, but I do know what their approach should be with Russell prior to the deadline.

The future of Jiri Hudler has been a hot topic around these parts since last year's career season. Hudler shattered his previous career highs in every offensive category and was one of the driving forces behind Calgary's surprise appearance in the 2015 postseason.
This season, though, has been a different story. Hudler has been dramatically less productive and less effective this year which makes many wonder how much he'll fetch in a trade. Does he need to be moved at all costs? Let's discuss.

Of all the pending unrestricted free agents currently on the roster for the Calgary Flames, I feel like my read on David Jones is the worst. It's tough to differentiate between the three different outcomes for the veteran forward, mainly because they're all potentially beneficial for the team. The trade deadline is less than two weeks away now, but I wonder if the real decision on Jones won't come until the offseason.

With the trade deadline three weeks away, the Calgary Flames face four decisions with pending unrestricted free agent players. In each situation, the Flames need to decide whether to make a move prior to the deadline or to keep the player beyond February 29th with the eye to potentially re-signing him. Each case is different which is why we'll take a look at all four players.
We'll start with Karri Ramo, because I think he presents the most interesting case. There are compelling cases on each side, so what makes the most sense for Ramo's future?
