1. No intensity
Of course, it's not officially official or anything just yet, but that loss to Columbus (in the shootout though it was) following the one to Edmonton has me pretty well convinced.
Sorry.

1. What to make of eighth
For half a second the other night, Calgary actually occupied a playoff spot. That was Sunday night. Less than two days later, simply by sitting idle in preparation for last night's tilt with San Jose, they had slipped back to 10th place, two points behind then-eighth-place Colorado. And one gets the feeling that's how the entirety of the season's remainder will pan out.

1. Do you guys give up?
"Calgary's only TWO points out of a playoff spot!"
That's what people are telling themselves these days. I think about six different stories in the Herald and Sun this week have been about more or less that thing: The Flames are tantalizingly close to the playoffs, and yet so, so far away. With just 15 games remaining on the schedule, they're still on the outside looking in, but we're told that if they can just keep winning, they can still sneak in.

1. ...It was neither
I guess that's as close to realism as this franchise is going to get.
After we heard all about how the franchise was Going For It and (most of us) feared what horrible implications that might possibly have, it turns out the team stood pat at the deadline and it went by with little more than an extension for Tim Jackman, which we'll get to in a second.

1. They're in the what-now?
Calgary has had a playoff spot?
If I had said that to you, say, a month ago, you would have laughed in my face and made me cry probably. But here we are, with Calgary having occupied the No. 8 spot for a few days and making everyone watching from the outside sprout large, floating question marks above their heads in abject confusion.
