1. Moving on
Last week I looked at the chances for Kenny Agostino, Billy Arnold, Sven Baertschi, and Sam Bennett to make the big club for at least a semi-permanent gig next season. In general, those four guys seemed unlikely to do it, with the sole exception of Baertschi, who I think at least gets a shot to prove he still can't hack it.
And with that we move onto the second group of forwards who might have a chance to make the Flames. Because I apparently neglected to mention this before, I've come up with a list of 12 forward prospects who might be in the best position to get into the lineup, as well as four defensemen. They are being presented in alphabetical order (because you see, I don't think the guys whose last names happen to start with A and B are also the most likely to make the team).

Whoa there big boy, it's not what you think. This isn't a charity auction where a donation of $1000 will net you a night on the town with Bryce Van Brabant. Although, if you were so inclined, and made the cheque out to cash...
No. I made a promise. No more trafficking in professional athletes.
So, back to the theme of this article.
History is filled with dates. 1099 C.E. – the capture of Jerusalem by the armies of the First Crusade. 1066 C.E. – Norman conquest of England by William the Conqueror. 312 C.E. – Battle of the Milvian Bridge. 1453 C.E. – the fall of Constantinople to the armies of Sultan Mehmet II. 399 B.C.E – the Death of Socrates. 1274 B.C.E – Ramses II fights the Battle of Kadesh against the Hittite Empire.

It's time to start talking about a TJ Brodie extension. The longer the team waits, the more expensive he will become.
Last summer I argued that the Flames should sign then RFA TJ Brodie to a long-term deal rather than the bridge contract they settled on. The reasoning was that Brodie was trending up substantially and projected to be an important - and potentially expensive - part of the Flames future. The argument against this suggestion was that it was too risky to commit long-term dollars to a relatively untested commodity.

It's August, so that means two things: World Junior and World Under-18 camps are underway, and major-junior teams will soon be able to hold camps and make roster moves.
The first "thing" is cool because Sam Bennett and Morgan Klimchuk are vying for spots on Team Canada's entry at the World Juniors this Christmas in Toronto and Montreal. (Yay home-ice advantage!) The second is important because the Flames may have to make some quick decisions on some 20-year-olds depending on what happens with their junior teams.

It's no secret the Flames suddenly have a lot of kids knocking on the door. In addition to established guys like Max Reinhart, Markus Granlund, Sven Baertschi, Corban Knight, Ben Hanowski, Michael Ferland and Tyler Wotherspoon, the organization is going to add Johnny Gaudreau, Bill Arnold, David Wolf, Emile Poirier, Brett Kulak, Ryan Culkin, Pat Sieloff and Kenny Agostino to the mix full time this year. Sam Bennett is a possibility as well, but for now we'll assume the team is going to send him back to junior.
