1. What the Flames need
So we've got the trade deadline in two weeks or so and the dominoes are already starting to fall. A guy I thought the Flames might target, and in fact did — Cody Franson — has instead gone to league-leading Nashville in one of those "rich-get-richer" deals that you're not sure how they went down in the first place (it's not dissimilar to how the Leafs pried Franson out of Nashville in the first place: For Brett Lebda, somehow). I think we can all agree that given the price — a B prospect, a first-round pick, and Olli Jokinen — that's something that's at least relatively in the Flames' wheelhouse, although maybe you say the first-rounder might have been a bridge too far for a rebuilding club, though I'll get to that in a minute.

It's a tale as old as time. A verse as old as rhyme.
The Calgary Flames have habitually gotten themselves behind the eight-ball this season by virtue of giving their opponents leads, quite often by margins of one or two goals. Once again, though, the Flames managed to make an impressive comeback.
They didn't win tonight, but they got a crucial point by way of a 3-2 overtime loss to the visiting Minnesota Wild. All this despite giving the Wild a 2-0 first period lead like friendly hosts.

Back in January - about three weeks ago, in fact - we previewed the last visit of the Minnesota Wild to Calgary. We discussed their recent hot streak and how crucial it was for Calgary to beat them and put some distance between the two teams.
Well, it's been three weeks and the Wild have lost just once in regulation. It happened on Wednesday in Vancouver. The Wild continue their road trip tonight in Calgary and are hoping to kick off another impossibly long winning streak. The Flames are hoping merely to keep their impossible season going for a little bit longer, and to creep a little bit closer to the mythical 95 points we project will be the playoff cut-off line.
I'm just hoping the Flames can put together a solid 60 minute game. They were the better team for about 25 minutes on Monday night against the Bruins, and that was good enough to eke out a win in overtime. With how well the Wild have been playing, they'll need to be better than that.
The puck drops at 7:30pm MT tonight on Sportsnet One and Sportsnet 960 The Fan.

Sam Bennett, the Flames' highest draft pick since moving from Atlanta to Calgary, has been cleared for contact and is practicing with the Flames. To put it lightly, Bennett's NHL debut is eagerly anticipated by Flames fans. The big question everyone is asking is, "Is he ready?" and, if he is ready, "What should the Flames do with him?".

Today is Glencross day here at FN! What Would You Do Wednesday, Glencross edition.
Heading into this season, it seemed a forgone conclusion that Curtis Glencross would be sold off to the highest bidder at the trade deadline this season. I myself figured the Flames would be in full "everything on sale, including fixtures and furniture" mode by this point in the season. Well, at last check, he isn't even on TSN's big list of players rumoured-to-be-perhaps-will-be-traded.
The Flames recent tentative return to relevance has completely changed the mindset of this franchise and the 2015 trade deadline but it at least seems as though the Flames won't be diving head-first into the rental market either. However, the Flames do have one intriguing decision to make with one of their expiring contracts, Curtis Glencross.
