Sometimes when you lose games in overtime, you should probably take the important point and move on, forgetting the 60 plus minutes prior to the result. On Thursday night in Dallas, you didn't see a whole lot from the Calgary Flames, but they used a third period Mike Cammalleri goal to push the game to even strength before Mike Ribeiro wired home his 12th of the season for a 3-2 Stars win.

Dallas is one of the four other teams fighting with the Flames for the final spot in the west. They currently sit three points back of the Flames win a game in hand. A loss tonight to the Flames would really put Dallas behind the 8-ball going forward.
The trade of Nick Grossman today kind of signals that the Stars are going the sell rather than buy route. While they maybe close to the final post-season spot, their management and ownership seems a bit more interested in saving money than "going for it" as things stand. Perhaps the Flames can take advantage tonight and move ahead of the Stars for good in the race.

The Calgary Flames have the chance to do something they haven't done all season tonight as they get set for another crucial road matchup, this time in Dallas (6:30 pm, TSN and Sportsnet 960). If Calgary is able to pick up a win at the American Airlines Center and couple with that with some more help on the out of town scoreboard, they'll move into a Western Conference playoff spot for the first time this season.

Although the Flames have a lot of needs at the moment, they also don't have a lot of assets with which to barter heading into the deadline. Forget the buyers versus sellers debate for now, because Calgary doesn't fit neatly into either category - the truth is it's difficult for the team to do either given their position in the standings and bevy of injuries.
