We're five games into the season, which means just about any stat you can name isn't all that meaningful (ie; predictive) just yet. Still, some things are beginning to take shape, particularly how Bob Hartley is deploying his players in terms of combinations, match-ups and zone starts. Here's a look at a few of the noteworthy numbers I managed to glean from the invaluable new stats site Extra Skater.

With points in their first four games of the season, the Calgary Flames had a unique opportunity before them on Friday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome. After 60 minutes of hard-fought, occasionally chess-like hockey, the Flames were able to make a little bit of history.

The dressing room is supposed to be a safe place for players. That is said time and again between coaches and players. Things that are said or happen between those walls stay between those walls.
Joe Thornton is making headlines today, for a comment he directed in a humorous way at a scrum of reporters that were interviewing another player. He was not being interviewed himself. He said something sarcastic about scoring four goals in one game and what he would do to celebrate.
