The weekend is over for our American pals - us Canadians get today off to commemorate the birth of Queen Victoria - and the World Hockey Championship roars on.

The round robin is almost over. Almost. Most teams have one game left. Some have two. But we can guess what the quarterfinal pairings may be.

Another week is in the books and another star player is taking heat for not performing when it mattered most. Crosby had a tough second round, but so did a lot of the Penguins.  If you had Crosby in your pool, like I did, he didn't exactly help out much in the standings.  After jumping almost 100 spots last week, I was ready to stop blaming Chris Kelly and forgive him for me being stupid enough to pick him.  Well, I'm falling again and I don't think even smashing into the concrete can stop my decline this time around.

Flames Next Steps - Functional Toughness

Season 1 of the official Calgary Flames rebuild was, by many measures, a success. The club was competitive on most nights but finished low enough to guarantee a high caliber prospect in the upcoming draft. We saw the emergence of potential new core pieces in Mikael Backlund, TJ Brodie, Mark Giordano and Sean Monahan, while many of the organization's hopefuls (including Johnny Gaudreau, Jon Gillies, Joni Ortio, Markus Granlund, Max Reinhart, Emile Poirier and Morgan Klimchuk) had very strong seasons in their respective leagues.

Introducing the Adirondack Flames

The Calgary Flames made it official this morning, christening their new AHL farm club with the wonderfully un-imaginative title of the Adirondack Flames with an early-morning press conference in Glens Falls, NY.
