After a lockout wiped out the 2004/2005 season the NHL had to come up with a plan on how to decide the draft order for the "Sidney Sweepstakes." Sidney Crosby had been heralded as the #1 choice for the 2005 draft since he was 14 years old, and now the NHL had the dubious task of trying to come up with a "fair" process to determine which franchise would choose him first overall.

Here's today's KHL action featuring great goals and saves as usual. You might notice we're missing one game, and that would be CKSA Moscow (Datsyuk, Grabovski, Bryzgalov, Radulov) vs Lev Prague (Zdeno Chara). We're still working on that one. We'll include that in this post as soon as we're done!

In news that should make even the most optimistic Flames fan go "Oh, that's not good," the Abbotsford Heat quietly let it slip recently that forward Lance Bouma has injured both his MCL and ACL and will be out for an indefinite period of time. Dan Kinvig of the Abbotsford News broke the bad news yesterday.

Indulge me for a moment here folks.
As you may or may not know, I participated in a 12-team fantasy draft for the Globe and Mail with other notable sports writers and bloggers (including our own Cam Charron of LeafsNation and Eric T/Derek Zona of NHLNumbers). I was given the Boston Bruins and the first overall pick, so was able to put together a pretty solid team (Crosby and Datsyuk FTW!). James Mirtle, who set up the exercise, has an article up on the project today, with an option for everyone to vote on the best team drafted.

1. Bettman at the Islanders presser
So Gary Bettman goes out at the Islanders-to-Brooklyn press conference (more on that in a minute) and basically says there's no chance at an 82-game season. This was reported as news despite the fact that everyone on the planet more or less knew that was going to be the case anyway.
