I'm hoping you get my Jersey Shore reference, and if you don't, then I've completely outed myself as one of the only FlamesNationers to have watched the oddly entertaining MTV program.  What it has to do with tonight's Flames-Devils game in Newark (5:30 pm, TSN and The FAN 960)?  Absolutely nothing, but anytime I can get a Jersey Shore reference in...I'm doing it.  By the way, it's a big game for the Flames.

VANCOUVER, CANADA - NOVEMBER 1: Ilya Kovalchuk of the New Jersey Devils blows a bubble while chewing bubble gum during the pre-game warm up prior to NHL action against the Vancouver Canucks on November 01, 2010 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Brent's ex-team was the subject of one of the most controversial contract disputes this past off-season when they tried to sign Ilya Kovalchuk into his grey hair years. The deal was eventually re-jigged and okay'd after initially being rejected by the league, but I'm guessing the organization is starting to feel a bit like Eve after biting the forbidden fruit considering they've been ejected from the league's eden of upper-echelon teams to start the year.

I have nothing really to add to the issue, frankly. Upon first viewing, I thought the hit targeted the head. Upon second viewing, Im not certain whether he hits Stajan in the shoulder/chest, causing his head to snap back, or whether he really did make contact with the head. I also don't know what the NHL considers a true "blind side hit".

Anyways, feel free to discuss things in the comments.

A day after a strong performance minus the correct result in Detroit, the Flames were unable to pull things out at Madison Square Garden, falling 2-1 in their only meeting with the New York Rangers.  It was a game filled with hard hitting, chippy play...and one crushing hit delivered by Marc Staal to Calgary's Matt Stajan.  Regardless, the Flames are three games below the .500 mark heading into New Jersey on Wednesday.
