It's an off-day today for the Calgary Flames, so let's take a gander at some stats! Shall we?
Here's a look at With or Without You (WOWY) differentials, as of the first 28 games. It's not entirely current, but close enough to be interesting. The differentials indicate how much better (positive) or worse (negative) a teammate is in CorsiFor percentage terms when playing with a player compared to without.
As such, a player with a lot of positive differentials makes their teammates better, while somebody with a lot of negative numbers drags 'em down. My cut-off here was 100 even-strength minutes played as a pairing.
Players are listed in terms of their overall CorsiFor percentage, so we'll be going from best players to worst players, and their teammates are listed in order of who plays together the most often.

After going nearly the first third of the regular season without racking up consecutive regulation losses, the Calgary Flames have strung together four of them to kick off the middle third of the schedule. Their latest set-back was tonight, by way of a 3-1 decision in Pittsburgh at the hands of a Sidney Crosby-less Penguins club.
They fall to 17-12-2 on the season. The road trip ends on Sunday in Chicago.
The culprit tonight? A slow start and shoddy defensive zone play that put the team behind the eight-ball before much of the clock had ticked away. Stop me if you've heard this before.

(Maybe keep your speaker volume down a tad, there's shouting)
Outside of dealing with people scoffing at their early-season, percentage-driven success, the Calgary Flames haven't had to deal with a lot of adversity this season. Sure, they had injuries, but none of the injuries were to an indispensable player like Giordano, Brodie, Hudler, Monahan or Gaudreau. Or a goalie. So it was fine.
Now they've lost three games in a row, and after being high in the hog and feeling bulletproof, the Flames (17-11-2) are perhaps reeling a bit. Tonight, they try not to extend their losing streak any further.
Too bad they're playing the Pittsburgh Penguins (18-6-3) tonight in the Steel City, as the Penguins are a really good team. Who have Sidney Crosby. And that Evgeni Malkin guy. And their secret weapon: Blake Comeau.
Puck drop is at 5pm MT on Sportsnet West and Sportsnet 960 The Fan.
