A year ago, the Calgary Flames selected winger Tim Harrison late in the 2013 NHL Draft.
Nobody had ever heard of him and his introduction to Flames fans was at 2013's development camp, where he opened a lot of eyes with a bunch of hits. He went off to college and was an energy player (and a favourite of the coaching staff, based on how quickly he moved up the line-up card) for the Colgate University Raiders. In his freshman year, his team made it to the NCAA Tournament despite being a young squad with few established college stars.
I caught up with Harrison at Flames development camp at Winsport.

Pages have fallen off the calendar this summer and we're quietly in mid-July. As such, we're transitioning at FlamesNation from picking at the corpse of the 2013-14 Flames towards projecting what the 2014-15 Flames will be. Or do.
So, in the interest of stirring the pot: WILL THE FLAMES FINISH BETTER OR WORSE NEXT SEASON?

For the second time in the past three drafts, the Calgary Flames selected a goaltender in the first three rounds. While the Flames have just dreadful, dreadful luck picking goalies in the first round - Brent Krahn and Leland Irving say hey - they've been better in the later rounds. 2012's third round pick was used on Jon Gillies, currently towering over the opposition with the Providence College Friars. This year, Calgary used the 34th overall selection on another tender from the East Coast - selecting Mason McDonald from the QMJHL's Charlottetown Islanders.
McDonald had an interesting year, being traded half-way through the campaign from the Acadie-Bathhurst Titan to PEI, posting numbers that were solid if unspectacular. He also appeared at the Top Prospects Game in Calgary and the IIHF Under-18 World Championships, two events that really boosted his profile with his impressive performances.
I had the chance to chat with McDonald at Calgary's development camp at Winsport.

Big news, everybody! Several Calgary Flames players have changed their jersey numbers!
In other news, several other players have not changed their numbers.
The important thing here - if you can call it that - is which players upgraded numbers.
