In part 1, we established that Iginla struggled relative to expectations (and his cap hit) this past season. It was perhaps an unncessary bit of data-mining for those that watched him this season since simply observing his play on a nightly basis was enough to establish that Jarome was off in 2009-10. That said, it's always good to check one's perceptions against measures of performance.

In part 2, we'll look compare Iginla's season in context of his career arc. In part three, I'll investigate what it might mean for the organization and his future in Calgary.

If not Darryl, then who?

2009 NHL Entry Draft, Rounds 2-7

Some want Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter to be sent packing after a disappointing season. Some believe it would be too hasty to make a change, and at least another year is appropriate. And some are still rocking the "In Sutter We Trust" T-shirts.

Well the good news is Calgary's season has come to a merciful close, and the better news is I'm almost done having to think about it. But until that wonderful, sunny day comes, I am here considering what has become of one of the better franchises in the Western Conference.

Perhaps the only debate with the potential to be more divisive than the fate of Darryl Sutter this off-season is what to do with Jarome Iginla. And despite the strong emotions and sentiment such a question evokes, his performance this season renders it a legitimate one.
